Just looking through the squad to see which dead-wood we can actually get rid of at the end of the season, and its frightening how many players we actually have, even though a lot are injured. There are some I've completely forgotten about.

The ones still contracted to us for next season, regardless of what division we are in:
GK: Simonsen, Aksalu
Def: Lowton, Collins, Morgan, Taylor
Mid: Ertl, Monty, Doyle, Williamson, Yeates, McAllister, Quinn
Att: Henderson, Evans, Bogdanovic, Cresswell

17 players, of whom I would suggest that if we go down Monty, Henderson (medical and whether anyone else will match his masive wages depending), Quinn, Wiliamson & Evans will move on. That will leave us with 11 ok-ish players for League One and give MA plenty of room for manoevre to bring his own permanent signings in.

Players out of contract or loan expiring who we can get rid of / send back:

GK: Wright
Def: Jordan, Nosworthy, France, Mattock, Lowry, Parrino, Kozluk
Mid: Riise
Att: Vokes, Bent, Ward (transfer agreed)

12 players off the book, but a current squad of 29 players! Many of them are injured but we're still paying their wages so that is why the wage bill is so big. I dread to think how much money per week we are paying Henderson, France, Morgan, Montgomery, Mattock and Wright, all of whom are unavailable to the squad.

Realistically I think we should be operating with a squad of 18-20 and supplementing that with youth players as and when there are injuries & suspensions, especially in League One as we wont be able to carry a big squad, especially if we can't shift big wage earners like Hendo, Evans & Cresswell (who just isn't good enough any more regardless what division we're in IMO).

Thoughts?

I'm not sure how you arrive at "11 ok-ish" players if Hendo, Williamson & Evans leave. I'd say that would leave us with just 3 ok-ish players at the most - Morgan, Parrino and Lowry - 2 of whom are on loan so may well go!

I fear the rest will struggle, even in League 1. We need much more quality, pace & commitment - whatever division we are in.
