Ok so now the derby is out of the way, we really need to be planning for next season as everyone agrees its going to be yet another season of upheaval.

Who should we sign for next season & who should we bring through the ranks?

I'll start

Sign:-
Simonsen

Bring through:-
Nathaniel Foster?

Can't really see us signing Simonsen, with Kenny and Aksalu already in the squad. I'd love to see 1-2 youngsters being brought into the 1st team, and most likely we will have to if we are getting in 14 "new" players.
What we need desperately is defenders, since most loanees have been defenders. We got Morgan and Taylor for next season, plus maybe Lowton. (Geary??, Stewart, Fortune and Naysmith will leave?)
And I guess we still need THE midfielder which we've been missing since Brown 02/03. (de Leeuw?)
With Sharp back we should bring up a youngster as a 5th/6th striker choice. (Cressy, Evans, Hendo, Sharp, Ward)

Build a team around the following;

GK: Kenny
RB: ?
CB: Morgan
CB: ?
LB: Naysmith (if as he admitted, he will take a pay cut)
CM: Williamson
CM: Montgomery
CM: ?
RF: Ward
CF: Sharp
LF: Cresswell

Subs: Aksalu - Geary - CB? - Quinn - CM? - Reid - Evans

I think a flexible 4-3-3 is the way to go next season as we have key players such as Ward and Cressy who look comfortable in wide positions and I would like a system where we can play both of them whilst accomodating Billy Sharp. I would possibly cash in on Henderson (I like him but I dont think he is indispensable). I would like another look at Ched in a decent side!

As for signings; I would possibly look at getting young Bartley on loan for the season. Connolly is worth a shout for a right back on the cheap. We might have to pay a little for a decent midfield player. Perhaps looking at the local clubs is an option (Brian Stock? Hugo Colace?).

Any thoughts?????..........

Think the 4-3-3 is quite workable as it can easily fall back onto a 4-5-1 that blackie prefers to play away from home.
Also Yeates and Reid could be accomdated to get games in as well with the system easily being swapped. Yeates has looked better when Ward has been on the opposing wing, If we keep montgomery and build a team round those players then it could possibly be a decent season, maybe this system will work wonders with one or two youth players too, if we can get another good centre back and right back, then we should use the younger players as cover, and not have to dip in the loan market as much.

I'd like us to keep Camara and if we could get him fit and playing regular he would bolster that front line a bit more, also agree with seeing Ched in a better team, he looked a different player in the first few games when we had a consistent team and played to our strength of using the wings and attacking teams.

After having a look at the prem sides, our division and a quick glance at league 1 i cant see why these players cant be viewed as realistic targets, be it on season loans or permanent deals.

DR - Bardsley, Connolly
DC- Bartley, Nosworthy, Sonko, Mawene
ML - Surman, Halford
MC - A.Gunnarson, Brown, J.Cork, Stock, J.Emmanuel-Thomas, Lansbury
ST- Keogh, Watt, J.Baxter, J.Rhodes, Le-Fondre

Now im not saying we should sign all these players but i feel we need atleast 2RB'S, 4 Cb's, 2CM'S, 2LM'S and 1 Striker

i would

release - bennett, harper, stewart, geary, fortune

send back - simmo, kallio, seip

sell - Henderson and France.

Keep

Kenny, Askalu
Naysmith
Morgan, Lowton
Yeates, Ward, Little
Monty, Willo, Quinn
Cresswell, Ched, Sharp Camara

I can tell you why these players cant be viewed as realistic targets, wage budget.

The wages of all those premiership players would be treble our budget easily. Reality check needed I think.

How about this one for next season. RB... Kozluk? :D

Not necessarily - all the prem players listed will want 1st team football and are gonna have to take a wage cut to get that, everyone seems to have this idea that the top football clubs are in their own micro economy and free from the effects of recession, offering ridiculous wages. Football is going to change and i feel this summer we will see alot of 'so called' prem players, who arent getting a game, getting released and realising the days of earning easy money are over, keogh wouldnt command more than 10k a week and none of the decent youth players will be on half that. if we sell hendo and use what budget we have on wages rather than transfer fees some of them would definately be a possibility.

Sorry mate I think you are well off the pace if you think players who have the protection of a contract on PL wages are going to agree to a cut inorder to play football.
They will look for a loan deal where they keep their wages, get games and run down their contract.
We already know are wage budget next season is between £5M and £6M. You can't give someone like Keogh a tenth of our weekly wage budget it's never going to happen.
I'd also say our chances of signing any attacking Arsenal player is zero totally down to the style of football we play. Hence us signing the likes of Treacy instead of Lansbury.
Arsene won't want them coming to a side who don't play football, and given how he plays the game throughout his academy right through to the first team you can't blame him.
Bardsley will be on a similar amount to Naysmith (16K) and I we couldn't afford Halford and Surman's wages last season with a larger wage budget.

 ahh Bob, you cant resist this debate can you? To be honest I agree with Bob to some extent here DP. The two of us had a similar debate on this issue recently and needless to say we were some way off agreeing but some of the players I suggested were a little below your bracket.

I think the likes of Keogh and Bardsley are a bit out of our reach considering the fact that we are set to cut our wage budget by 40%. I wouldn't say they are completely unattainable, but we would have to sacrifice funding other areas and they wouldn't be within the same pay structure as the rest of the team. For that reason, those sorts of players just arent a viable option.

The likes of Emmanuel-Thomas and Bartley on loan are certainly attainable I would say and you have a few players in there that I believe we could afford. But PL players aged 23-30 are likely to be well out of reach for a couple of reasons.

I do maintain that a £6million wage budget (which is what we're supposed to be working on next season) is perfectly competitive at this level and you can sign decent championship players on that basis. But in terms of PL players, the only likely players from this source will be young loanees.
