Pigs favourites for league 1

If they can replicate the football they played last season then Chesterfield look a good e/w bet @ 33/1.

According to two of my piggy mates they'll need to buy an entire new team to do it. One of them reckons they're utter garbage. I cant comment as I haven't seen them this season.

Whilst realising that they're one of the bigger clubs in L1 and that they now have a bit of financial backing, I still find it surprising they are favourites with the bookmakers. It is only May though.....

Rochdale are great value at 33/1 - might have a little punt at that!

Maybe peterborough or Huddersfield might become favourites piggys are just loved we all know that.

I can honestly say I don't find it surprising that they're favourites and I'd certainly put them up there.

They have a handful of dangerous players at this level (Madine and Johnson in particular) and they'll benefit from already having spent a season in League 1. And like or not, they have a competent manager and plenty of cash to improve their side.

I also expect the losing playoff finalist to come in as joint favourite upon the match being played.

5/1 does seem very narrow odds at this stage. I certainly won't be sticking my last fiver on them. I would expect odds to change wildly over the next few weeks as managerial appointments/signings/budgets etc are sorted at all clubs. I can't really believe we are the second best side in that division, when we have absolutely no idea who is going to be playing for us, or indeed managing. As Steelcity said, it's only May. Expect a few changes.

I don't think I'll be backing Chesterfield at any price e/w. Too many better sides in League 1 I reckon.

Swindon at 8/1 for League 2 however looks like a potential steal. Di Canio would not be going there without a few assurances about signings. edit - In fact it's just been on SSN that he already has spoken to Harry 'fantastic' Redknapp and reps at AC Milan about loan signings

The thing is bookies darnt give a big price on a team like Wednesday just in case they managed to win the league. Lots of people would probably have a flutter at a bigger price. It's like when you see teams like Bolton at 100/1 for the Premier League. They are never ever going to win it and should be a lot bigger odds but its just how bookies work.

7/1 for us isn't bad depending who we bring in.

Once the massive Pig-Machine gets moving it will be a sell-out home and away , multi-million pound signings , national tv exposure for their 4 million fans [none of who live in Sheffield] and Vaugh will get the Ashes declared early so everyone can see them at Wembley , the death-sty will see a 3 billion pound rebuilding programme paid for by the taxpayer MM will then sell making a Sorus style financial killing . Of course they are favorites to win the pub leauge why shouldnt they be ?..........The co-op will end up bankrupt.

As far as I could see the more used to League One Wednesday got the worse they did!

The fact that we're second favourites tells you everything you need to know about the odds at this time.

I'll be happy to stay up next season right now, though I'm expecting / hoping for some favourable changes by the start of the season..

To be fair, they dropped like a stone, but then sorted themselves out with a handful of games to play. I expect the ginger pig to do much better next season with a full pre season behind him.

Pigs are 5/1 because they have more clowns willing to part with their money than most other clubs and not because they have the best team / club / infrastructure, hence their price tumbles.

Sorted themselves out? Finished with a home defeat to the mighty Exeter didn't they?

Look, we hate them, I get it. But why can't we be a bit even handed about them at the same time?

They lost the last game of the season, but prior to that they lost 1 in 7 and won 4 of those games. Compared to the abject shitness that they personified previously, then yes, I'd suggest that they improved towards the end of the season.

Ok - I accept it - they weren't quite as shit towards the end of the season as they had been post Christmas - but they were still shit.

It's the England effect. England always have low odds i.e 9 to 1 to win the WC, making them 3rd of 4th favs when in fact they are no way near winning. The same is being applied here too, Skybet have looked at the teams in league 1 next season and given short odds to the ones who have recent championshipe experience. Wed are favs over united because utd have just come down. Betfair will give you more realistic odds.

At this stage it's just a 'finger in the air' best guess, purely based on last season with the relegated teams usually put near the top. I'd argue with your last comment though, Betfair's prices, more than anyone, are 'market driven'.
