Portuguese parents, born in Brazil, I guess he could have played for either Country if they'd wanted him.

He wasn't shit at all, he had a very respectable better than one-in-three record for us which is not bad at all for a striker adjusting to a new league. He wasn't most people's idea of a Brazilian striker though - He had a poor first touch but as seen in the video above it was sometimes a help, his miscontrol invited the Coventry defender to commit and dive in allowing Marcelo to go past him.

Compared to the quality of player in the Brazilian national team he was shit.

The fact that he couldn't get in the Portuguese national team who weren't good enough to qualify for a tournament says a lot..

To be fair, there's quite a gulf between 'not good enough to play for Brazil' and 'shit'! He was a perfectly good striker for a tier two side, which is what we were.

Yes, but my point was in response to someone wondering why he didn't play in a World Cup for Brazil.

If you asked someone why Michael Chopra doesn't get a look in for the England squad, "because he's shit" would probably be the response.

He's had a shaky game so far has Jags.

I was thinking about his debut for us earlier. Remember him coming on in the final game of the season against Swindon at the end of Warnock's first half season. But I remember the game more for another youngster that debuted that season - Adam Burley. Came on and seemed to score with his first touch from close range to equalise. I think he played one more league game for us and then disappeared without a trace...

Jags has been consistently one of the best in the PL for the last 2-3 seasons. Unfortunate that he got injured and has been a bit off the pace for a few weeks. But who could we have put in that was any better? Jones? Smalling? JT? Don't think so.

Seemed to score...???

He wasn't aware of what was going on behind him for both goals IMO - shame.

I don't think he'll ever play for England in a World Cup again.

True on both counts Shoreham.
He lost Suarez for the first goal, but that's why Suarez is world-class. I think Jags expected one of the three players round Cavani to stop the cross. For the second, he goes to attack the ball, but stops when he sees Gerrard going for it. He's then in no man's land and can't get back. Should he have called for it and cleared it himself?
Jags is 31 now so unlikely to get another chance at a World Cup.

There's no reason why, if he is good enough, a player shouldn't still be playing for his national team at 35 though

Jags was abysmal - and doesn't look up to international football. His pairing with Cahill is dreadful - both of them are far too soft and lack concentation. Unfortunately the likes of Smalling & Jones are even worse.

I didn't think I'd say this but bring back John Terry!

Id rather they stuck with the losers theyve got than bring back the Ku Klux Kunt.

Fraid Jags nowhere near international class ..:(,a new era coming in,John Stones of Everton looks the most likely candidate for Cahill to partner, not just Jags tho,Baines,Johnson,Rooney,Gerrard,Henderson(for the time being),not up to it,mainly age or just not good enough.
Love to see Walcott,((I know he was injured),Oxlade Chamberlain,(same),and such as Flanagan,Ravel Morrison,or is it morrisey ?anyway these sorts, skilful and pacey youngsters given chance to play together Luke Shaw as well.
We cant be any worse ..can we ?

I don't think it was a great showing from both ex-blades, but to be fair to them the rest of the team massively underperformed apart from Sterling and maybe Sturridge and Welbeck.

Welbeck was appalling. The bloke relies too much on other people's craft to get opportunities for him and out on the wing he is ineffective. I fail to see over last season what he had to offer to gain him an England shirt. He is not an out-and-out attack option in that setup and has less ability than Sturridge who can at least make opposition defences work hard to nullify. With Welbeck, the back four don't have much to do, just block his advance and force him backward or into an error, of which you can put cash on him making. He's not like Sterling or Walcot who will at least punch the ball into space and get round the back with pace. Elsewhere I thought Lallana was a huge disappointment and proved he has a couple of more years to go toward showing true England potential, if at all. Over the past two games Rooney has been shit. I don't buy the 'he set one up and scored one' crap. Whilst true, I watched him for ten minutes or so during the Uruguay game and he trotted round with the game bypassing him. When he did get the ball and try to work the opposition he was dispossessed - something that Wayne Rooney in 2008-09 would never have done. He used to be particularly difficult to take the ball off (and keep hold of it) and he never gave daft free kicks away ten metres into out half like he did when he bundled Egidio Arévalo over in the second half. Its a sad decline ion a talented player's ability and its all down to mismanagement and his over inflated opinion of himself if you ask me. In midfield Gerrard needs now to step down. In two key games - Liverpool vs Chelsea and Uruguay vs England, his failings have cost key competition positions. Jags needn't hide either. If I were Hodgson, he wouldn't pull another England shirt on again until I'd seen his performance and judgement improve. Suarez's first was Jag's schoolboy error and really, he should have been living inside Suarez's shirt for 80 of those 90 minutes, no matter if Suarez moved out to the wing or whatever. Pisspoor defending in my humble.

Hart 6/10. No chance with any of the goals so far
Baines 6/10. Works hard but no real wing penetration
Johnson 2/10. Liability
Jags 4/10. Not good enough
Cahill 7/10. Best defender
Gerrard 5/10. Fading fast
Henderson 5/10. Room to improve
Sterling 7/10. Our only attacking option
Rooney 3/10. Sussed out and now no longer an England player
Welbeck 1/10. Rubbish
Sturridge 6/10. Good finish vs Italy

Lallana 3/10. Disappointing
Barkley 7/10. One for the future (as long as he doesn't start believing the hype)
Lambert 5/10. Won't be at the next Euros

In a strange way, I am glad we are out. We don't deserve to go on any further and now need to fuck Hodgson off with the old school and start work on pace and attacking football, with emphasis on good defensive strategy.

Speaking of Blades landmarks.

Did Jags get captains armband off Rooney ?

Think he did you know.
