Our current league form record is ridiculous. Our last 12 league games P12 W10 D1 L1.

This equals our best 12-match run from the 2005-06 promotion season. I had a look back in the records to see just how good a run this is at this level and I couldn't find a better 12-match league run (only counting league matches in the top 2 tiers) since 1960, when we won 11 of 12.

One of the forum historians may be able to correct me if I've missed something but this looks like our joint best league run at this level for over 60 years, which Hecky and players deserve a huge amount of credit for!

The other thing I noticed when looking this up was how spoilt we've been in the post-Adkins era - loads of our club records have been set in the last 6 years: our records for most league points in a season, most league wins, most home league wins, most away league wins, highest number of doubles, successive league wins, successive away league matches without a defeat were all set under Wilder...

..as were the records for most successive league defeats, successive home defeats and successive home games without a victory!

I believe that we also got the all-time record for 'fewest draws in a Premier League season' in 2020/21. We also hold the record for 'most draws in a Premier League season', but that was under Bassett.

These are indeed, the glory days.
In the scheme of things we have nothing to complain about.
The haters are reduced to complaining, that they have to bite their nails a bit before we win, and it’s incompetent of Hecky not to have the game wrapped up, by half-time.
To most Blades with any sense let’s enjoy the good times whilst they’re here. There hasn’t been, and won’t be many days like these, supporting this club.

I'd discount any 'records' that only include the years that the top flight has been referred to as the 'Premier League' or 'Premiership'. Also, points totals, as for the vast majority of our history a win has been rewarded with two points, not three.

So that's 10 shit performances, 1 slightly more shit performance and 1 even shitter performance, in the last 12.

Interesting posts there. Looking back over a long span of time (first match 1953), there have been some good times (late 50s/early 60s, the Woodward/Currie era, Division 4, etc.), but in terms of results/performances/feel good factor, nothing compares with early Wilder years. The current team are achieving outstanding results, against a background of a grim relegation, injuries, uncertainty about ownership/finances, etc. We have not got the feel good factor yet, and it could still go very wrong; but given stability at the top of the club, there is every possibility of success. In view of previous disasters, it is best to make sure we appreciate the here and now.

Boro 1-0 down and down to 10 men. The gap will be 13 points even if Boro get a draw. Everyone seems to be worried that Boro and WBA could catch us, however, as we keep winning, the gap is just getting bigger. We'd really have to go on a catastrophic sequence of results for even us to fuck this up.

Edit : 2-0 and game over.

If Luton or Millwall win their game in hand, they would go 3rd - that's how ridiculous this league is.

I'm with you on that, but I do love the niche stat about us (jointly) holding the records for both most and fewest draws in a prem season

Also, points totals, as for the vast majority of our history a win has been rewarded with two points, not three.
Even then, if you adjust historic tables giving 3 for a win we'd still never have gotten more points than in the Wilder centurions season, I think.

In 1952-53, when we finished on 60 points - our highest points tally in a 2-for-a-win season - we'd have got 85 points with 3 for a win, so even if we'd won the 4 extra games (as it was 42-games-per-season then) we'd still only have managed 97.

I cant be arsed to look but heckingbottams win percentage must be ridiculous, it must be up there with peps which doesn't really count anyway as he only manages the best teams with the most cash in each country.

Likewise, many ‘most goals scored’, ‘most goals conceded’ records can be meaningless over time because of the various rule changes to offside, VAR, backpasses, etc. making it easier / harder to score in some periods compared with others.

You are very right that we should ensure we savour the season.

I Man guilty myself of wishing it away at times, wanting to arrive at the point of promotion no return, wanting to be in the summer with all the excitement.

But as we should have learnt from before, sometimes the journey itself can be more enjoyable than the destination!

Many teams suffer from a Play-off defeat hangover.

Hecky and his team have not allowed that to creep in. The momentum from last season (which ended in disappointment) has just continued.

We are fortunate to have a top quality coach and a top quality man manager.
