Seems to be a common point which comes up when we are linked with players.

Took a while, but here's who won the POTY awards in League One just now from the rest:

2. Bolton - Wheater
3. Scunthorpe - Morris
4. Fleetwood - Bolger
5. Bradford - Marshall
6. Millwall - Morison
7. Southend - Leonard
8. Oxford - Eastwood
9. Rochdale - Lillis
10. Bristol - Ollie Clarke
11. Peterborough - Bostwick
12. Mk dons - G Williams
13. Charlton - Holmes
14. Walsall - Otzumer
15. Wimbledon - Elliott
16. Northampton - Diamond
17. Oldham - Clarke
18. Shrewsbury - Sadler
19. Bury - Vaughan
20. Gillingham - Wright
21. Port Vale - N Smith
22. Swindon - Vigouroux
23. Coventry - Bigirimana
24. Chesterfield - Evatt

Timely given Leonard's link. Any others?

And therein lies one of the reasons for our success this season.

Who out of the that lot would have got in our starting 11?

I'd go probably Wheater, Vaughan and Oztumer.

It's tricky. I think a number of them would have fit within our first 11 and stayed there. In addition to those you identify Leonard, Holmes and Bolger would certainly have had a chance.

We walked that league and the majority of our players were incredible, but lets not understate Wilder's influence in that.

Quite telling that Tom Elliott won Wimbledon's given that they had a successful season. Should have signed him instead of Hanson.

Plenty of those would've had a great chance of getting in our team.

I suppose that's the point i was trying to make is that some of them would stand a chance but how many would walk into our first 11?

I've picked Oztumer as think he would have played instead of Duffy and Holmes isn't as good as him IMO.

Vaughan is better than any of the partners Sharp had so in he goes.

Wheater would have taken Jake Wright's place again IMO which i suppose brings in the option of Bolger instead of Bash/EEL.

Would Leonard have been a definite upgrade on Coutts? I'm not so sure.

Again all down to opinions I suppose.

I wasn't that impressed by Elliott when i saw him. Apart from being absolute huge i didn't see what all the fuss was about.

Nathan Smith, young Port Vale centre-half, impressive sweeping the board of their player of the year awards. Just 21 y/o, in his first full season.

You've missed my point. I'm certainly not saying that (for instance) Holmes is better than Fleck.

What I'd saying is that Wilder picks on merit. So, were we to bring in Leonard now and he put in a good performance or two (enabled by Wilder), he'd retain his place based on form.

Fleck had a rough start to the season and Wright was backup. When they performed, they kept their places. No reason why that wouldn't happen again.

Out of that list, I'd take Leonard to keep Coutts and Fleck on their toes. Elliott to replace Hanson. Holmes or otzumer to challenge Duffy/Carruthers. Wheater to replace Jake Wright. Morris if Stevens doesn't sign. Great dead balls and would add goals from LWB.

Excellent post but it'd been good to see what positions these lads play in.

James Vaughn - second only to Billy in League One top scorers, in a poor side. I would be sure that someone will come in for him.

Not many in there that would enhance our team immediately, but CW/AK would certainly make them all better players.

Bolger instead of Basham/EEL Upton, isn't he a striker and not a defender.

Very sporting of Oldham and Gills to select our players in their POTY awards.

good question. those are good players but replacing whom out of our 1st team.

Vaughan with sharp - maybe
Oztumer for Duffy, not sure as Oztumer couldn't get in the Wallsall team for 1/2 their games
Wheater did look good but for Basham, not sure on that at all

I like Vaughan, especially now he's not on the sick bed all season, but signing ched rules him out? Wheater would replace Wright not bash, surely?

Maybe with Wheater , but wright played 30 odd games and never lost last year. He also made us better whenever I saw him play, which was 20 odd of those games. As you say , Vaugghan is the only shoe in to improve our first team

Why not go for Wheater? He's just turned down a contract at Bolton. Did great last year. Experienced but not too old.

He'd seem quite decent with O'Connor or in a three with Bash or Wright.

Would't mind one of Vaughan and Elliott and one of Oztumer/ Holmes.

Also wouldn't mind Bolger from Fleetwood.

Not their player of the year... but I've always rated Sean Kelly at Wimbledon. Can play LB and CB pacey, strong, good in the air.

I will add the caveat that I'm basing this mostly on his time playing in Scotland rather than his time with Wimbeldon, but he does seem to be a regular for the Wombles and I always thought he was destined for better things when he played for St Mirren in the Scottish Prem.
