Blades Game Switched To Friday

BORO'S first game of the season, against Sheffield United, has been chosen for live coverage by Sky TV and will now take place on Friday August 7 at 8pm.

The match was to have been played on Saturday August 8 at 3pm.

Kevin Blackwell's team finished third in the Coca-Cola Championship last season, missing out on promotion through the play-offs after defeat to Burnley in the Wembley final.

Praise be to the Lord, I wont have to miss it by being on holiday or go to Middlesborough. Now if the could just televise the first two league home games and I am sorted.

sky-what a bunch of full weight w*nkers when will they learn football should be played on a saturday at 3 o'clock. And now there arn't any trains back

Well thats w*nk to say the least. T*ss pots.

Looks like an afternoon off work then! GRRRR!

Well, I couldn't go on the Saturday, and now I can't go on the Friday neither (but I could have gone Sunday - GRRR) - however, at least I can watch it on sky, which is better than not being able to watch it at all

excuse the double post... but that's not the only change:

Middlesborough v United
Friday 7th August, Kick-off 7.45pm

Derby County v United
Saturday 12th September, Kick-off 1.00pm

United v Wednesday
Saturday 19th September, Kick-off 12.30pm

Cardiff City v United
Wednesday 24th March, Kick-off 7.45pm

Absolute dogshit.

I can't even get a train back!

Looks like it will be a sober journey for someone in the car.

A season opener being played on a friday?

Im know im young but ive never seen this happen before. RUINING WITH TRADITION JUST FOR MONEY!

Ipswichblade-Any reason for the Derby away change? Not on TV so on police advice?

well there was alot of trouble at derby last season especially near the train station so maybe so

It's not on, quite frankly. It's hardly the greatest place to go anyway, and it's buggered it up for loads who will still be working. Thanks a bunch.

surely the club could have opposed it in some way,but we just accepted as per usual :mad:it's a shame really they'll probably less than a thousand blades there to see us kick the season off.i was going with about 10 others on the train but know only myself and one off the others are up for it now there are no trains back. and since i refuse to give united any more money to run their concentration camp coaches don't think i'll bother.boozer for me :(

Coaches aren't quite concentration camps are they? They don't allow alcohol - what other rules are there that make them concentration camp like?!

well whenever im on them i just feel more like im on a y6 trip to chatsworth house rather than a football match.my school days are now behind me and i don't wish to relive on the way to watch football

sky can kiss my otherhalfs hairy......

I bloody work friday nights, nice start to my season ticket year....

Do you have a season ticket for the Riverside?:p

I knew Sky would get hold of this as soon as I saw the fixtures. I thought we would get an early Sat. kick-off though.

The fact that they're coaches, for a start. For me, it's because you get there with bugger all chance to have a look around, have a beer and stuff. It's 'driven there, watch match, driven back.'.

Marginally above veal crates.

The atmosphere (or lack of) on them is soul destroying too.

Still don t understand what is wrong with traveling by coach.

There don't seem to be any cheap hotels around either :(

Well yeah - it's a bit like public transport - it takes you there and brings you back (although unlike public transport it's slightly more reliable). Just because you can't have any beer or anything doesn't make it a concentration camp!! Not everyone wants a beer before the game - and all the coaches I've caught have given you time to look around before kick off.

You have the choice (and often a bar in any case!) on a train though. If you don't want a beer, don't have one. Personally, the idea of watching United without beer fills me with utter dread :p

Whenever I've got one of the United crates, we've arrived about an hour before kick off, and then left immediately (or as near as damn it). You can't take in much of a place in an hour.

I've just had a quick look on raileasy, and short of the post train (which takes 8 hours), there are no trains back that night which fit in with the match. So any of us who do want to go and have a beer are, well, fucked, unless there's a kindly designated driver.

You can't have a little walk about on a coach like you can a train. There are loads of other reasons why I don't like coaches, but the official ones, for me, are awful.
