I've been to there match today (free hospitality from a mate). They looked very much like us early last year. A few good players (Quinn and lowton), far too much respect paid by a very very poor bury side and a bit of confidence from previous results.

From what i saw today they'll finish top 6. However out of the starting 11 today only lowton and Quinn would get in our side, which tells you something.

Give it a few months and a few dodgy results and you'll see how good they are. The squad isn't very deep.

All in all they played some decent stuff but any side in this league would have turned bury over today. Huddersfield and scunny are very different prospects coming up for them.

When you lose a couple of defenders like the two above, it's plainly obvious why you'd lose 4-0. Wednesday played against a much better defence.

I do to be honest; for all the "they don't matter to us" malarky from both sides, the two clubs are intrinsically linked and will be forever. They're our biggest rivals by far and most of us deal with them on a day to day basis. I'd be utterly shocked if 99% of Blades don't look for Wednesday's result directly after ours.

Yes, it's lovely to have started the season and just wryly smile in their direction, going about out business quietly. But every now and then, there's a gem on Porktalk and it rightly provokes a chortle. The above is one of those times.

Brentford ,Tranmere and Hartlepool lie 4th,5th and 6th in the league they couldn't beat us with two of those games at their ground.

Yes Bury lost their top striker but they added three players in the window they had not been defeated away until today.
Their top striker would not have stopped the beating they took today.

Easy starts they have not played anyone of note

I'm beginning to think that the majority of them are actually a little mentally deficient or at the very least in serious denial:

They've had the much more 'easier' start than anyone in the league IMO - yet to play any of the 'better' sides. Plus, the Bury team they played on Saturday had the spine ripped out of it.

So, now it's not even an easy start. It's the easiest start in the league!

Thankfully, there are a couple of voices of reason.

I said at the begining of the season that Wilson would do well, as long as he got off to a good start and got the fans on his side (which to a certian extent he has done). TBH it pains me to say it but I feel that United will be up there at the end of the season, especially if they keep hold of the nucleus of players which they had from last season (Cresswell and Quinn, etc). Those that are attempting to suggest that United haven't played anyone of quality yet need only look at the table. They have, to date, only dropped 2 points in the League and that is despite playing 2 teams in the top six and no teams from the bottom four. In addition, they have only lost one game in all competitions and that was against Everton. In comparison, we have lost 6 points all ready, having played no-one in the top six and 2 teams in the bottom four, and have lost 3 games in all competitions. Whilst I appreciate that we are a work in progress, it has to be said that United have started extremeley well. In all honesty, I think that the battle for the bragging rights this season may well be a lot harder than some may have thought at the end of last season/begining of this.

I forgot to say- we have played only one team in the top half of the table- Notts County. Whilst I acknowledge that the tables at this stage of the season are a little superficial, I do feel tonights game against Charlton (a strong, fancied team on their own patch) should tell us a bit more about or promotion chances and with that the quality of the team/squad that Megson has assembled.
