And that goal from Badger stuck in the top corner of the net and the goalie having to pluck it out of the net and angle.

Thing i remember about that game was that Yorkshire tv had a highlights programme the following day and we were the main match. Sadly the cameras failed and they could only show the last 3 goals.......wankers!
The 1st half was televised in colour but the poor floodlights made it a poor picture so the 2nd half was televised in black and white

Only 0-4 but Sunderland beat us at Bramall Lane in one of their promotion seasons. Michael Bridges was sensational and we were lucky to get 0

I always chuckle at the myth we outplayed Scunthorpe and lost 4-0. Right up there with Premier League midfielders saying Monty was there most difficult opponent.
Well obviously you wasnt there!
20 shots, hit woodwork twice, 2 off the line, a disallowed goal and applauded off the the pitch at full time but yeah they battered us! 😂

We got a few wallopings around that time, think Leeds put 5 past us as well and Piggy Pearson scored a hat trick.
The Leeds 5-0 and Boro 6-0 were consecutive away games. In between we beat Ipswich 4-1 at the Lane in a game featuring a number of odd incidents.

Ah yes thats the memory, i also recall getting beat at Reading around that part of the season, after Ipswich I thought we would stay up but that was more youthful exuberance.

..and following on from that, wingers who could head the ball well were a real bonus. I can think of Gil Reece, Peter Beagrie and Jock Bryson. Any more?

I was there. 4-0 says they did wallop us.
They did but it was underseved

Undeserved by utds performance but the scoreline is all that matters, a couple of things regarding that game
Woolford n forte played for scunny
Woolford scored from just inside our half
It was scunny first game after atkins left for Southampton

I believe we still hold the record for the biggest away win in the English League, a 10-0 win at Burslem Port Vale on 10th December 1892 and we are still the only away side to score 10 in a League game. The story goes that the Vale keeper lost his spectacles in the mud and Foulke apparently sourced a chair and sat on it during the game.

As ever, I will bow to your superior memory Silent. But I have always remembered it as him diving forward to head it. Is it on t'internet anywhere?
I think the Gil Reece goal you're thinking of was the diving header against Birmingham in the promotion season run in. In the match action photos in the next home game programme he was dubbed 'The Flying Welshman'. The other goal he scored that day was special too as he dribbled round several players before scoring. The programme noted that he 'beat 3 or 4 Birmingham players and an ice cream seller before scoring'.

Wendies 2 blades 1. FA cup Semi final wembley Thank you sir Alan cos that could have been horrendous

I remember going to top flight Watford in the mid 80s in the cup. Graham Taylor was there manager and couldn’t praise our supporters enough. They toyed with us and were quite gentle. We got a 5-0 thumping but it really could have been double that if Watford had stepped up a gear or two. If memory serves me right I think you could count on one hand the number of times the ball went into there box never mind near the goal

Just checked the stats….they had more shots on target than us.

Definitely wasnt as unbelievable as some make it out to be. There was hardly anybody left in the ground to applaud us off.
