Before I go sticking this on ebay, I thought I'd mention it to you lot on here as it may be of interest. It's a print of our largest ever crowd but I can't remember the artist (Jerry Gorman??) and it's signed by the 2003 squad and good old Neil Warnock😲. It measures 83x62cm so it's not small. I bought it at one of the auction dinners United had and I gave it to my father who sadly passed away last year. His father was in the crowd! It's been lying around doing nothing and I have nowhere appropriate for it so it's probably best to sell. I paid £300 for it and ideally I'd like to recoup as much as possible but won't be greedy. All I can say is that it truly is a one off and possibly of interest to a Blade out there somewhere. And I don't mean to offend anyone prior to accusations of blatently selling something, which I am😉

My grandad was in that crowd too. Assuming it’s the Leeds game.
I wish I had somewhere appropriate to put it. I’m not a big fan of football paintings but that’s quite nice. Are the signatures part of the framing or the actual picture? I think it detracts from the painting.
Anyway, if there aren’t any takers, stick the eBay listing on here. I’m a bit compulsive.

Hi BB, the signatures are part of the frame and yes, you do need somewhere appropriate.............a wall for example😉

Joking apart, it isn't overly small.

It's a great print.

There used to be one on the wall in the bar at the now defunct Hilton Hotel, down by the old canal, when I stayed there a few times late 90's.

There wasn't the usual trade off of a Wednesday picture next to it which was a cause of immense satisfaction.

I have to agree with Bush though , sadly I think the signatures detract from it somewhat , although I'm sure there will be someone on ebay who thinks differently.

Good luck with the sale.

How about the Railway - hasn't that just been done out with loads of blades memorabilia? Could be worth asking if they're interested.

I believe that I have the original painting. It was given to me as a present by my son-in-law, also a Blade, about 12 years ago. He is an accountant living in

Nottingham. He noticed it on the wall in the boardroom of the HFS Loan Company at the time when they were sponsoring United. He asked them for it when

that sponsorship ended and was given it. The picture shown on the print is quite poor. The artist's initials and the date are clearly visible in the bottom left

hand corner on the original and are "WJ" and '93" but they are not at all clear in the print. (The initials could be "JW" since the "J" is written across the second

"U" of the "W" in the original but the former seems more likely to me.) The match is clearly the Feb. 15th, 1936 FA cup-tie between United and Leeds when the

attendance was 68,287 - still a club record for a home game. (United won 3-1with goals from Pickering (2) and Dodds.)

Other features not clear in the print are that (a) United are defending the Lane End and (b) Leeds are playing in yellow and blue "halves": i.e. the right hand side

of their shirts are yellow and the left hand sides are blue with the sleeves being coloured the opposite way round. Finally, the areas above and below the black

rectangle in the raised section at the centre of the John Street Stand are painted in red and white stripes.

Thought this was going to be a photoshopped Brewster picture, very disappointing.....

I can add to Ancient Blade on this story of the picture. I am his son in law.
I worked as an accountant for Capital One when they bought Hfs loans business. They were Sheffield United sponsors at the time.
I worked a lot at the Hfs head office in Macclesfield as I was responsible for transferring the finance function to Nottngham.
The picture in question along with a lot of Sheffield United memorabilia around the office and in he board room.
When the office there was closed down the stuff was out up for auction within Capital One with proceeds going to charity. I acquired it along with another picture and a signed shirt by being highest bidder.
I think it is an original and would have thought it was but I haven't seen it for ages
How that explains things. UTB

I’m very pleased to announce that the painting is now in my possession! A thing of beauty so it is, lots of lovely details and a very atmospheric image....the original Bramall Lane! It will adorn my lounge wall hopefully for many years to come.

Thanks to Bayingblade for the opportunity to buy it, a top man, had a great chat with him in the romantic setting of Tankersley Manor car park!

UTB and bollocks to Covid!

On a related note I've got a picture of the cast of Thunderball signed by the cast of Die Another Day

I once got an autographed poster from Sam Fox, few stains on it but maybe worth a tenner?

And it was good to meet and do business with penthouseblade. A fine upstanding gent and I now have a pocket stuffed with crisp and nearly dry nine and eleven pound notes that will go to a good cause.

Good to know it is going to a genuine Blade, enjoy the picture PB :)
