On A Positive Note re: James Hanson...

The more I think about it... the more I like this signing. For 2 main reasons.

A) Gives us an option we don't have and probably the best available option of his type.

And more importantly...

B) If you're feeling a little underwhelmed... just think of what you'd be thinking prior to kick off if Bolton/ Scunny had signed him...

Shit worried and I now think they will feel the same... team playing the best football in the division now with a physical plan B?
Yes please, thank you.

From what i've seen this season I trust Wilder and his team. Doesn't seam the sort of bloke who will pick many duff ones.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here.

Hanson has 4 goals this season at Bradford. He'll at least double that between now and the end of season. I'm gonna say at least 10 in total.

The amount of balls that we whip into the box is perfect for him.

I think you're onto something here. From the times I've seen him, he's always been a threat, and if quality crosses come in he'll win the ball. And we don't have that at all presently. Someone to defend set pieces doesn't hurt either.

We'll not go from tiki-taka to hoof, but we can now mix it up a bit. I think we sometimes are too slow in our attacks and defenders have time to set themselves in position. I also think with Hanson and O'Shea we are looking to be flexible with formations, either 3-4-3 if we are going for wins, or a more rigid 4-4-2 to be stronger defensively and have more out wide to overload and cross balls in.

Every Blade will give him a chance! He isn't going to be booed on to the pitch for his debut.

I just think he is shit and not the type of striker we should be signing. It's just my opinion, I don't want him to fail.

That treatment is only reserved for managers and players who are ex pigs who get either protested against in the car park or booed onto the pitch when they arrive, very grown up. Give him a few games and if he's not bagged 5 goals he'll be hailed as the new Connor Sammon and booed on.

So 6 goals in 18 matches?

You're really sticking your neck out with that one! ;)

Well people have slagged his goalscoring off so far. This season he's got 4 in 20 so far (1 in 5). I'm saying he'll get at least 1 in 3 for us.

And he's not going to be starting many games either I wouldn't have thought.

If he can get 6 off the bench that's a very good signing.

It was just the sticking your next out part that made me laugh. A striker scoring 1 in 3 at a club that is top of the league isn't exactly a bold prediction.

By the way, if he scores 6 goals I'll be happy with that.

What's wrong with sticking my next out?

I'm happy to give him a chance. In fact, I think he's a good signing. He may not start every week but he offers something different which is important.

Hanson reminds me of Andy Carroll - not the most gifted technically, but you would rather he was on your side than not, because of his ability to change games.
BAHhahahahahahahaha

Oh right, didn't realise Hanson had played for Wednesday and previously turned us down in favour of signing for Leeds. You learn something new every day.

What's that got to do with anything?

Cresswell was booed due to his history with Wednesday and Leeds, what reason would there be for anyone to boo Hanson?

You think that is a reason to boo Cresswell? That was seriously embarrassing that day.

I didn't make reference to Cresswell at all in my original post, I just said that Hanson will not be booed on debut.

I never said Cresswell being booed was right, I just gave the reasons for why he was booed by our idiots in order to highlight why Hanson and Cresswell are completely different situations.

I don't understand why you think Cresswell being booed on debut has anything to do with Hanson?

I don't give a feck what the opposition fans say TBH. It's rare that the majority say anything constructive about a player who on his bike to the opposition. Good, bad or indifferent take it with a pinch of salt.

At least Hanson looks to be a bit better than Craig Davis Scunny's latest recruit, and he is younger.

Fair enough mate, I just think with the vocal minority of our fans, "never say never" and all that, I wouldn't be so sure Hanson won't get booed.

The bloke near me who seems to spend vast amounts of time shouting "fuck off Freeman, you're fuckin wank" all the time, could have a field day!

I think Hanson is very good target man in this division, can really dominate teams in the air and puts a shift in. He is certainly better at that role than Clarke, if not actually a better goalscorer or more 'clinical' finisher. If Wilder has signed him to strengthen that option, I am for it, we will be a better team. But if Wilder has signed him to start a long side Sharp, at the expense of Lavery or Done, I would be concerned. I think Sharp and the team benefit more from pace and movement that stretches defences, than height, brawn and flick-ons. In a perfect world we would have pace and height alongside Sharp, but it isn't a perfect world, it's Division One.

There's looking at the positives... then there's comparing him with Andy Carroll.
haha I suppose he's a tall white guy.

'If I had to compare myself to another professional footballer it'd be James Hanson, we are almost identical in terms of the way we play football'

Which if he was to achieve, would be more than Clarke, Done, Lavery and McNulty combined have managed to do so far 28 games in......
