Much has been made of the fact that Blackburn haven't lost in 25 games at home. I remember Oldham Athletic had gone over a year unbeaten on their awful artificial pitch when we played them in March 1990. It didn't stop us winning 2-0 in our promotion season. If anyone can end an unbeaten home record it is us! Up The Blades!

They were in a lower division most of the time! I'm pretty confident Man City would go 25 games unbeaten at home in the Championship.

Another 3-2 to us coming :D

What was even more remarkable was that our previous two games were a 5-0 loss at whu and a last minute defeat at home to Barnsley. Many thought the bubble had burst...

Was at the game at oldham a year or so later when we had i think 2 sent off and it kicked off between our fans and theirs, blades fans trying to scale the barriers
Yeah hartfield and beesley I think? Deano scored and was diagnosed with glandular fever the next day! Anyone remember his next goal!!!!!

The pleasure derived from winning at Oldham was two fold.

First (and most obviously) it was an important three points against a promotion rival.

But secondly there was quite some irony in the fact that we were the first team in a year to win a league game at Oldham. This was because it was thought that only good 'footballing' sides could play well on their artificial pitch. So here was conclusive evidence that Dave Bassett's Sheffield United was a good 'footballing' side.

Pinchy probably has a mental block over that game and has deleted it's existence from his memory!

Might be way off but would it be the one against the pigs, and it went through Chris Woods legs. I was unable to cheer for laughing!

CORRECT! I think it was his first game back and wasn’t fully fit either; suffice to say he nutmegged England’s number one! Wednesday were like the keystone cops that day, do you remember the collision that led to the first? Priceless.

Davison day was just as good. Woods chested the ball down perfectly for Davo to smash it past him. Over the two games, Woods was a potent attacking force for us and I've always said as much. Bob Booker was in Lepers lane stand with the Blades waving a Blades scarf. Pig steward told him to sit down. Think he was given some ... timely advice.

Remember it well mate I was one of the attendees that night .. played very well that night .. I think they only gained that unbeaten run on the back of playing concrete overlayed with carpet .. remember the draw at Ewood Park that season in midweek before we went to Leicester

We were good on those shitty plastic pitches. Best Luton on theirs the season after in the top division.

Great memories from that night as the Blades smashed Oldham's home record which included beating quite a few big guns from the top division. I was one of the many clambering on the fence after Deano's goal in the clip, it always looks much better when an away terrace (rather than a stand) goes ape shit mental after an important goal. Didn't Webbo play (successfully) wide right in that game and another memory from that night was the Inspiral Carpets song "This is how it feels" seemed to be on repeat play most of the time on the tannoy system. Any time I've heard it since I always think of that March night in 1990 when United got the promotion band wagon back on the rails. Happy dayz

Your memory of The Inspiral Carpets blasting out on repeat is sound, it did whip up a great atmosphere to be fair. They were also singing ' ... put the champagne on ice , we're going to Wembley twice'. I think they were in the League Cup final and FA Cup semi final at the time.

A mate wore a sheepskin coat that night and pronounced it was to be his his 'lucky' coat thereafter. He looked a bit of a twerp wearing it at Filbert Street in 80 degree heat , lost about a stone in the process, but it did the trick !

Thank the lord the inter web didn't exist back then.

Big old boot up the pitch from Tracey, header on and then a great touch by Dean to flick it past the keeper. It doesn't get more 'route 1' than that.

Good turn out for the Blades begins the goal who went fucking mental.

Ironically, the Oldham game was played on a Wednesday night as well,i'm pretty sure that Bassett 'tinkered' with the team that night and played Webster at right back,i assume to combat the threat of Rick Holden who was their stand out player. It worked,Webbo was sensational in that game and became a bit of a cult hero, another one who changed the fans opinion because of his endeavour even though he wasn't the most skillful. It is difficult to tell from the video, but from behind the goal it seemed to take ages for the ball to eventually drop into the net just below the bar.It still rates as one of my great blades nights, they were unbeaten at home for 30 odd games prior to that game, perhaps we can do the same at Blackburn !!

It was mental in that end. When we got that second I remember just trying to avoid the fists and bodies flying all over the place.

Webster played up front that night! Got dropped for the Stoke away game a few days later. In Bassett's pre-match talk in the dressing room he said that Webbo didnt deserve to be dropped

I was certain that he had played in a wide right defensive roll, glad i didn't bet my house on it,i'd be homeless !!

The team was
Tracey
Hill Stancliffe Morris Barnes
Wood Todd Gannon Bryson
Webster Deane.

Whitehurst and Agana became available for Stoke match

I could have sworn Webbo played wide right midfield/right wing that night?? Looking at that team didn't DB shuffle either Wood or Bryson up top with the other playing wide left, Webbo wide right???
