This cost us the game.

Him going off is bad enough, but bringing Tragic Johnson on at left back and moving Stevens out of position to centre back? What was he thinking?

That's 2 players in a back 4 out of position. And what happens, we concede 2 goals down that left hand side immediately after this change is made.

Did Cranie and Stearman injure themselves at half time or something? How, when protecting a 2-1 lead, would it not have made more sense to get Cranie on at CB and keep Stevens at LB? Is Wilder taking the right/left foot balance to obsessive levels?

I only hope O'Connell's not going to be out for any period of time because if he is that'll cost us even more.

Crainie was stripped off as well at one point, which made the whole farce, even more farcical. It’s as if CW has to do something left field to show his genius. We were 2-1 up, make a sub that causes the minimum disruption.

To be fair most of the time it works.

Today was our one in eight complete shithouse performance where we forget how to pass the ball to to each other.

Yeah, probabaly. But before Crainie he had Coutts ready to come on, which I couldn’t work out either to be honest.

It was a terrible decision. But he loves left footers on the left side.
Johnson is not a wingback and a pretty poor player. Can’t believe we beat West Brom away with him on the pitch to be honest.

I didn’t mind the substitution but he should have moved Basham back into defence and move Mcgoldrick into the number 10 role.

Yes poor decision by Wilder 2-1 up and not playing well.
Keep it tight would have been the best option can't really blame Johnson as he's not a natural defender.
Bristol seems to bring the worst out in Wilder, chasing the win last season with ten men was a mistake .
We all make mistakes and hindsight is a marvellous thing.Wilder not made a lot of mistakes overall but maybe he could learn a bit from today's defeat.
Having said all that Bristol were the better team on the day, they strangled us in areas where we get a lot of joy. They were very mobile and for me the best team to come to the lane this season

Johnson attacked well when he came on.

Stevens was fantastic at LCB when JOC was injured.

It went wrong today but I think it's revisionist history to say anybody saw that coming.

Wasn’t Johnson the player who at 2-3, managed to pass the ball out for a corner? Wasn’t Johnson the player who at 2-3 had two attempts at putting into the danger area from the byline and spooned it both times? An absolute clown of a footballer, who after his previous misdeeds should be nowhere near a sheffield postcode let alone the match day squad.

I think he did reasonably well when he came on (attacking). He carried the ball forward, beat a couple of players and out at least one dangerous cross in.

He's not a great player, has low "football iq" and has toblerone feet. But I don't think today was anywhere near as bad as has been made out

....and to be brutally honest, if you are either Stearman or Crainie, after both’s recent heroics, you’d be fairly non plussed as to how you can’t get subbed on.

It's actually a joke. Almost every time he comes on, he kills our chances and usually ends the game by kicking the ball out of play under no pressure. Clown isn't unfair on him. He's done a ridiculous number of ridiculous things in the short time he's had on the pitch.

I’ve not seen the replays, so might be grossly wrong, but in real time I’m blaming him for the 2nd and 3rd goals.

I’ll have to respectfully disagree. But not entirely Johnson’s fault as he’s not capable of the job asked of him. If you come on at that stage in the game, at that scoreline, as a LWB, you sort your defensive duties out first. He can’t defend though and was pretty shit going forward.

He does dribble forward quickly but his end product is none exsistent.

2nd goal was all on the midfield for me. Stood and watched Palmer. 3rd goal looked a cluster fuck for a few people.

I'm not saying he's good, he definitely isn't. I just think he's down the list of what to blame for today

I replied to one further down. He's definitely not very good. I just think the 2nd goal was much more down to standing and watching Palmer pick a cross

Kasey Palmer was a shock to me. I had it in my mind he was 5’8” and white.

I obviously had him confused with someone else. As much as it hurts to admit it (and you are right about the pressure on the pass), but what a lovely shaped pass & finish for the 2nd.

Weimann took all his goals brilliantly. All the luck we've had with players missing chances the last few weeks went down the toilet. Weimann had scored 1 in 32 before today apparently

Agree on Palmer. I also thought he played for Blackburn :)

You just want your England U21 keeper to pull a magic save out for one of the goals. Not to be

As much as I love (and I mean LOVE) Deano, I thought that he had the look a player with his mind elsewhere today. Whether the sun unsettled him, but not his best performance for us by a long way. I thought that some of his play was loose. He mishandled one in 1st half, that I thought had gone in through his legs.

We looked distracted and unprepared today. And the switch to 442 appeared desperate. Just chucking stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks. Odd day all round

Has Wilder explained the substitution in his interview?

If it really is down to left footed balance he really needs to have a serious rethink.

I was only watching a stream (live abroad) so hard to gauge but I thought we had reverted to three CBs immediately after the Hogan goal?
We did, so the substitution made perfect sense given Stevens' recent performances at the left of a back three. Unfortunately we conceded straight away after the sub and reverted back to the complete mess of a formation we'd been using for most of the game, leaving Johnson and Stevens exposed out of position in a back four

I got slated for questioning Wilder's tendancy for strange subs and team changes the other week. No doubt, he often gets them right but I do wonder if we would be better off overall if we kept more team consistency and reined in the left field subs. We all know he's a great manager, he doesn't need to do obscure stuff like that.

Not at all, everyone around me asked why it wasn't Stearman or Cranie.
