Liverpool joining Everton in showing interest in David Brooks according to the Sunday People.

As the season progresses I expect a few PL clubs to reveal their interest and a bidding war to start in January.

The thing is how much will he be worth by then and will we sell?

Will his head get turned or might he think he can reach the PL THIS season with United?

Wilder says Brooks will be going nowhere but if the bids are in the £15-20m region (and why not) will we hold out?

I can't believe what a player Brooks already is and looks like becoming. The influence he's had on the team this season is massive and dare I say it the play-offs or even higher might just be possible if he stays.

I hope he isn't capped at senior level by Wales because until then he's eligible to still play for England and imagine his value then?

I want him to stay and showcase his talents with US in the Premier League. How we handle the interest in Brooks come January will be pivotal to United's immediate future without a doubt.

Why would his value increase by playing for England hasn’t harmed Bale.

Playing for England he'd probably be playing in the later stages of major tournaments against the worlds top players.

Not likely with Wales. If he did that and held his own, his value would without a doubt be higher.

An England international is always worth more than a Welsh international.

For example, at the moment Wales are ranked higher than England.
So how come the England’s probably more than double or treble the average salary of the Welsh players.
The transfers valuations are much higher and the commercial activities are higher.

If Bale was English he’d be worth more then he is now and richer, that’s how it is.

However of course it could easily end up being better for his career choosing Wales.
At Wales he could be a regular, at England he might struggle to get a game.

You mean like the last Euros?

With Bale, Ramsay, Woodburn and a manager who's proven at international tournaments - I'd back Wales to go deeper in tournaments over the next 5-10 years.

I'm sure Ryan Giggs did ok and he hardly ever played for Wales.

I'd also argue Gareth Bale has earned more than any English contemporary and struggle to think how you can justify how he'd have earned more by being English? Would Real Madrid pay him more?

We both have our own opinion on whether an England international is worth more than a Welsh international, not really what the thread is about though.

If they go againt Wilder , they could end up losing him.

Ian assure you Brooks wouldn’t be sold without Wilders agreement.

According to reports Brooks recently had this contract extended a further year up to Summer 2018.
So he’s NOT in the final year of his contract and no urgency to sell him this season.
However next season is a different matter, as we might have to pay him more than we can afford or cash in.

My view is that if he continues to impress
Then he won’t be sold this season unless the offers is over £25 million, then I think we’d accept.
Wilder would be fine as long as he gets most of it to strengthen the team.
Can’t see a team offering £25 million though.

If we get promoted this season I think we’ll offer him a massive pay rise.
If we don’t get promoted then I reckon he’ll be sold next Summer for £20 million.
Whilst we’re in the Championship we can;t afford to pay any players £50K a week.

we're in a great position
25 mil minimum or bugger off
Is he worth that now ? No where near but potentially could be worth over 10 million. The next couple of months will see how he develops before the next window. If he adds a few goals to his game as well as keeping improving in other areas i can see a big bid being received in January

I'd sell him for £20m in January plus loans of their best 2 youth players until the end of the season.

i presume you mean summer 2019. or he would be in the last 9 months of his contract

It’s not opinion though, it’s fact.
English football, including the national team is in a totally different world to Welsh football, more hype, more media, more commercial opportunities, more chance of reaching major tournaments, more money, bigger bonuses etc.

However agree there is a point that he could get more opportunities or enjoy himself more playing for Wales.
Money isn’t everything, playing for England also has more pressure. So agree that choosing Wales might be better.

It isn't me who says otherwise ;)

You've also not taken into consideration what Brooke's wants. If he's offered crazy money a week, a house, flash car, chance to play in the Premiership...he'd be crazy Not to at least think about it.
Now I think he would be better having at least, a year at Championship level. His career tho is in his hands. He can listen to advice from Chris Wilder, from other professionals, but ultimately it is his decision where he will play. I'm hoping he stays with us and helps us eventually to the Premiership.

Sorry typo, Brooks contract did run out Summer 2018 but we wisely recently extended it to 2019.
So there’s no urgency or panic to sell him this season. We can refuse any offer
And we’re still likely to receive massive offers next season.

The problem next season though is we either offer Brooks a new contract
And I’m sure his agent might be telling SU he can easily let his contract expire, then be paid £50K a week.
So when SU make him the highest paid player at the club on £15K a week, his agent will laugh.

Next season we may have no choice but to sell.
A lot depends on Brooks, he seems really down to earth to me. Money might not be his main incentive.

it's not fact, a fact is based on facts, according to my facts there have been zero england internationals sold while playing for wales and vice versa, so as stated it's an opinion not a fact

  • Board will sell at the first offer - check
  • We need to offer him a new deal - check
  • Board will go against Wilder - check

How I wish I could negotiate my contract with some of you. A complete none story, which has no specific details apart from young player who did well in a high profile derby game is wanted by <insert random club here>, and your throwing more money at him and knocking the board.
Good job guys.

If he doesn't sign a new contract then January's our last chance to get a suitable fee for him.

As soon as players are into their last year, fees reduce quite significantly.

He wouldn't be laughing if Brooks got a career changing injury between now and his contract expiring. He'd be wishing he took the 15k.

It would be best for all parties if he signed a good contract now, securing his future as soon as possible, ensuring he's earning good money between now and when he leaves. It's not like it would stop him leaving, ultimately. When have United ever stood in anyone's way? It would just ensure a better fee for us, and probably for him and his agent.
