About the same as how I would feel about having my bollocks chopped off.

This did cross my mind the other night actually, i made myself dismiss it very quickly

The reason I ask is not through choice. He brought through a considerable amount of kids in Blackburn through being forced not choice. This is the type McCabe will be looking for immediately.

Blackburn have obviously being more successful since his departure!

And the clue's are all there above.

"Get the kids in"...?

Blackburn were what, third when he was sacked? And now they're in a relegation scrap :D

I think that's to do with how badly Blackburn are run than any skill on Kean's part, though.

Who do you fancy for the job Pinchy?

UTB

Herpes.

Seriously Alco, I am, unusually for me, completely undecided! Actually no, I'm seriously underwhelmed by the list of supposed candidates and curiously afraid to back anyone because recent history shows we get it unerringly wrong!

You won't be surprised that I'm desperate to see an appointment of someone committed to 'proper football' and that he/she be given licence to instil his principles from the under 9s to the first team and back again. Can I think of a person in whom I would have great confidence to do that? Yes, but Laudrup, Wenger and Martinez are all washing their hair! After that I'm bereft. Having said that, I'm not one to closely follow other clubs. Is there a young "up and comer" out there within our reach?

Robinson - not really an achiever and a touchline embarrassment (though I could, hypocritically, live with that if successful)

Pemberton - I like him a lot but I'd favour a complete break from our exes.

McCall - see Pemberton.

Coyle - Probably (with no great enthusiasm) my choice from those I know, His Burnley team outplayed us 3 times in 2009. They were attacking, creative, pretty easy on the eye and effective.

What I'd really like (and yes, it is both simplistic and fanciful) is for the club to take soundings within the game (and certainly from the likes of Martinez and Laudrup) as to an ambitious coach, already keyed in to Swansea, Wigan (and Crewe) type footballing principles and maybe even a foreigner. Who'd have thought the Southampton fellow would hit the ground running as well as he did?

The safe old 'merry go round' options have proved anything but safe. I'm a bit of a gambler and I would applaud United for going 'left field' on this occasion. We have nothing to lose but our Lower League status!

I'm even more depressed now I've written that. Look at the bookies' favourites and weep! I do.

No to a fireigner who has no experience in the English game. For every Southampton you have a Wolves, they appointed some foreign bloke at the beginning of the season. Out of the names I've seen mentioned - Owen Coyle.

I've just had a look at the list - Gary Neville could be worth a shot, he knows the game well, has decent contacts in the game.

I doubt Gary Neville is in the same county as us salary-wise, so I think that can be dismissed. Shame as I think that would be a very good appointment.

Kean - No!

As for the idea of an up-and-coming progressive coach in the mould of Laudrup, Martinez. It has merits, but I'm not so sure our standing in the game is going to provide us with the contacts necessary to pinpoint the right individual. Also such a radical move may not get the backing of the fans for very long if things were slow to evolve, and when the fans get restless, you may or may not have noticed that McCabe resorts to 'Direct Bladeyness'. So for this to work two things need to happen, or one unlikely thing happen. The latter is that it's instantly successful and we just fly, doubtful that would happen, so then it's the two thing scenario. Firstly, the fans need to be patient, easily said but very difficult in reality when your a Blade and have endured the decades of dross and disappointment. Second McCabe needs to grow a pair, stick by his conviction that things need to be different, and not cave in to giving the fans what he thinks they want (an up-and-at-'em Blade) when they apply 'fan pressure'. If this was guaranteed, I'd be all for a young Martinez-type being given a chance.

Speaking of Gary Neville ,wtf are sky doing ? They have the 2 best pundits ever in Souness and Neville ,bit of eye candy for the women with Redknapp and now they are employing that whiney-voiced ,bin dipping, serial victim Carragher to fuck it all up.

I'm in a minority I suspect but I regard Alan Hansen as the best pundit and would place at least a dozen above the two you name.

As for Redknapp; alarmingly, he'll look like his dad eventually!

A dozen in English football better than Neville? Or do you mean Europe wide?

I'm afraid I can't immediately think of any European pundits, but in the UK and Eire:

Eamon Dunphy
Pat Nevin
Brian Clough
Malcolm Allison
Rodney Marsh
Paddy Crerand
Alan Mullery
Alan Hansen
Jimmy Hill
Gary Lineker
Robby Savage
Andy Gray
Alan Brazil
Bob Wilson
Jimmy Armfield....

And no doubt many others I've forgotten.....

Mea culpa Pinchy, I completely misread the first post where it said 'ever'. I can't say I agree with Hill (though admittedly he was past it when I started watching) Lineker and Wilson ( both of whom I've never seen as pundit), Hansen and particularly Robbie bloody Savage though. And I think it's strange you missed out Lee Dixon who I think in terms of tactical analysis is one of the best out there to be honest.

Do they have to be alive to be a pundit?

I think gary neville has raised the bar in terms of insightful analysis although lee dixon isnt far behind him
Redknapp might as well be handcuffed semi naked to the chair with his mouth gaffa taped up for all he contributes
