We do not need a new manager to get the Blades to play football. Saturday showed we can.

We do not need a new manager to catch on that the partnership between Killa and Morgs is not working. It is clear to all.

The question for any manager is how much longer do you stick with a partnership that once was so strong. Surely they deserve a chance?

The answer will come in training. If Killa and Morgs are busting a gut in training then you have to give them a couple of games to put it right. If it doesn't work even in training then it's time for a new partnership.

No need for all this great drama, just room for a little common sense.

But it DID work, Killa & morgs were solid for the first 8, 9 games so what's changed?

Easy

Killa is on his bike in January and a deal has probably already been done providing he doesn't pick up an injury. That explains his form.

As for Morgan he is simply trying to hard and having to do half of Killas work as well. Morgs is good at the simple things, ask him to do anything else and he struggles.

Killa has to be careful though, he gets dropped and it raises questions to potential buyers.

yet another killa battering! why does it explain his form, that he's already got a done deal??? absolute nonsense. we have walker playing below par at RB, morgan not exactly his best and a pair of LB's who arent even close to naysmith. the defence is in disarray as a whole, stop blaming it all needlessly on some half-baked idea that kilgallon is not committed. of course there is no done deal - and there wont be if he keeps this form up. he's having a bad spell, jesus, all players go through it!

I made no suggestion that Killa is not committed. The back four is not working and the starting point is to fix/stabilize the two CBs. With that in place you can tolerate some flakey FB play. However when fit, Taylor has generally been quite solid whereas Walker has often left the defence with large gaps that his speed cannot always rescue. Regardless fix the CB first. If we block up the middle we will stop shipping goals at 3 per game. Then better results will come - pretty basic really.

In my opinion, the problems with leaking goals come from:

1. Andy Taylor's lack of experience at this level. Although I think he is actually a good player and a great buy, he does sometimes make stupid mistakes. Experience should cure this, but it's unfortunate that his mistakes are compounded by the rest of the defence not playing as well as they should.

2. Kilgallon. His head's not where it should be, and he's not playing like he can. Perhaps he's being careful not to get injured so he doesn't jeopardise his move in January. Either way, he's not earning his place in the squad in terms of quality OR endeavour, so I'd be happy to see him dropped if Davies is fit.

3. Walker. He's really not playing well, and I don't think the answer is moving him to midfield. If he doesn't want to be here and play for us, send him back to Spurs and free up another space and his wages. Since he signed for them he seems to have become some kind of Billy Big Bollocks.

4. Bunn/Bennett. Bunn lets too many simple goals in, it's as easy as that. Maybe it's because he's young and inexperienced as well, but he's certainly not what we need in the goal at the moment with the defence in disarray. Bennett hasn't played enough to be truly effective, in my opinion.

5. Morgan. He's good, but not good enough to take the place of several other players at once. I feel sorry for him and Taylor the most.

Matth,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Almost entirely as i'd have put it. But my only comments would be:

Killa - Even with Killa's head being up in the PL, he's still an excellent player and proven to be a very good partner to Morgs (and vice versa). I don't think Davies is intended as a long term replacement is he? If he is, then play him. Alternative thought is that we actually want to keep Killa and perhaps privately believe we can get him to sign. (slim possibility). Killa's one of 4 defenders, none of which are performing so its not right to single out Killa for dropping.

Walker - I don't believe he doesn't want to be here, I don't believe he's Billy Big Ball's. I think like the majority of our team they're under performing and low on confidence. Young players get affected by these things more as they don't have the experience. Its how he works through it that will help to turn him from an average to a good to a great player.

Yes theres problems in the back 4 or 5 but we need a settled defence more than anything.

Monty is the reason it has all gone wrong we miss him and so do the defence we are getting caught short no one is doing his job

Pretty much my thoughts except (and having read lots of posts I think this may be a little contentiuos) but is Naysmith so good or just better?

I'm a huge Monty fan and allthough I think him being injured has affected the amount of goals we've conceded it doesn't mean it's all down to the one player.

If the defence is to carry on being the same then they need to have a sit down and have a talk about what is going wrong. Our defence was something we really relied on last season to get us victories, no they didn't score but they kept a bloody lot of clean sheets.

It starts with the CBs being able to cover for one another and cover the FB, at the moment there does not appear to be a partnership with each doing their own thing. They are all capable players but defence is about functioning as a unit not a bunch of talented athletes. Hence, start with the first piece and build from there. A good fullback, e.g., Naysmith, is not going to rescue the defence. Hey, maybe Killa and Walker would ge great - don't think so cause one has to be a leader.
