No midfield, are we doomed?

With all the talk of poor planning and too many loans I wondered what the team might look like if the injuries don't heal quick.

It seems to me that we have an alternative to making a 'new' midfield. Like Donny we can go to three Centre Backs and be very strong. Working from the team that started the last game it would give us -

Bunn in goal and then a trio of Morgs Davies and Killa, Walker and Stewart wide at the back to give us the speed to overlap, France and Quinn in the middle, and Treacy Hendo and Little up front.

We would still have some pace on the field and be strong down the middle where we have been leaking goals.

So, no new players or miracle recoveries and we can still put on a good solid show away from home. It may be a necessary option sometime so why not try it against Scunny.

I don't think we're domed. We will still grind out some results, just not as good as we would expect...... or perhaps thats our problem - that we expect too much

Warnock used that formation a few times, 3-4-3, or maybe more accurately 5-4-1. He tried to stifle the opposition, man mark them all over the pitch, and hope to snatch a goal. It's greatest success was when we knocked Villa out of the cup, and I also remember us beating West Ham away very easily, where I remember the commentators describing it as a "stroll in the park". In the Premiership, we frustrated both Arsenal and Man Utd in away games, but ended up losing.

Long term, and in games where we had to be more attacking it was a poor formation IMHO, certainly with the players we selected at the time.

I think my point was to underline that with what we have in place there are still good options available that can be used - good management, call them Plan B and C, and all within budget. Not bad eh!

As I posted in another thread, in a months time, it's quite possible we could have Treacy, McSheffrey, Cresswell, Ward, Cotts, Evans, Hendo, Reid and Little chasing 4 places. Squinny seems untouchable, Harper will, presumably take over Monty's role so it will be interesting to see what he does particularly wide left.

With Morgs 1 booking away from suspension and Hendo 2, we're in for more disruption in the coming weeks so the chances of us having a settled team in the foreseeable future are next to zero.

we deserved better at Old Trafford - we should have had a penalty, of course.

We got what we deserved against Arsenal though. That was one of the most negative displays I've ever seen from a United side. No, the most negative. Whilst it was 0-0, the sum total of our ambition was to get the ball over the half way line, but not to anyone in particular.
