My view is that the current variant is hugely more easily transmissable than what went before and people aren't locked down as they have been so there are far more opportunities to catch it.

Thankfully, it also doesn't seem particularly serious.

Not really giving an opinion, but teams were in bubbles then, there were fewer cases, and although less serious this variant's more contagious so there are more with it, added to more isolating and testing (lateral flow tests didn't exist then). That should cover it.

Very different situation isn’t it? At that time teams were in bubbles and the opportunity for social mixing was vastly reduced in the general population aswell with lockdowns and nightlife closure. Plus this variant is more transmissible so really it’s to be expect more players are catching it.

It’s all relative, seems less deadly but up-to 4 times more transmissible than the last. Like many have said having a virus that is more transmissible with less restrictions, was always going to cause chaos. This wave (I hope) will be the one that creates a crisis in society due to isolation and limited staffing within all job roles especially public services rather than deaths (2 family members), hence why the government have slashed the isolation time to 7 days.

Hecky has already said in an interview that we have had cases and that things are in place to protect staff and players, good to know that these have obviously worked so far, but every club needs to play their part.

MORONIC might be more transmissible but the figures for hospitalisations were far higher when we were in lockdown, only a third as many are in hospital now. I'm convinced clubs are asking for postponement when key players are injured not when the don't have enough players on the books to put 14 out for a game. The EFL should be docking points to those who are found doing this. WBA had to play the other week and couldn't put out a full bench. If players can't be arsed to get a jab fine but put the cunts on SSP for two weeks, bet the greedy twats would be at the walk in next morning pleading for a jab.

I think a lot of teams who have existing injury problems are not exactly falling over backwards to proactively prevent outbreaks of COVID to keep the games on.

These new variants are more transmissible. Simple as that. We’re seeing 100k+ registered case a day now compared to 7k back then. Important thing is deaths are way down proving the vaccine is doing it’s job.

Althought the hospitalisation rate is a good point, it’s not the reason for caution, it’s the fact it spreads far quicker (5x more than the original variant) therefore what was a peak of 69k a week testing positive (delta) as almost doubled, isolation then causes chaos within the NHS and wider society because every fucker has it, and theres no staff, it all relative.

What pisses me off though is the protocols at each club are clearly not consistent or being monitored tightly enough. The EFL need to set out a strict rules on postponement of games, did the players in question catch it because they went out partying? Did they catch it because they didn’t do all the could to prevent the spread (vaccinated)? if the answer to the last question is no, then its their own fault, why should fans of other clubs have to change their plans and reorganised trips. Tough shit play the young uns or a goalkeeper at centre back, they’d soon stop fucking about then.

Part of me thinks if I need a bloody passport to enter BDTBL or any other ground then so should every player.
