Newcastle 1-1 United Women - report

United Women put in a superb performance away at Newcastle United to come away with a first point of the Barclays Women's Super League 2 season.

As a blade in the north east (and no opportunities to see the men's team in the north east this year ) I went along with my young daughters.

They were more bothered about the colouring in station in the concourse but I thought the Women's team did well. Ben from blades pod rates Newcastle united very highly having made some big name additions so we naturally set up defensively.

I would have been happy to see an organised defensive performance and perhaps a 1-0 defeat (a decent result given the 4-0 drubbing in the opener last week). When we went 1-0 up i thought we'd have a good chance of getting something. We defended very well in my opinion and eventually conceded after sustained pressure from the home side.

Some good performances all round meant we were good enough to hold on for a point which shows that the pretty much brand new team seem to be gelling!

All played well but I noticed the following as going above and beyond: Devlin (MID/FW), Rouse (MID), George (MID), Taylor (DEF), Lafayette (DEF)
