Leon’s taken the pressure off Chris in many ways this season.

As a promoted team, you wonder if you will be able to get enough goals. He’s answered that by notching 14 by Christmas.

He’s also made the team selection Leon + 1 other. We could have been heavily rotating 4 or 5 strikers and find ourselves still looking for 2 in Jan. As it is Clarke brings pace, power and finishing so he can be paired with any other striker. Depending on if we get some raw pace or not as a desired partner for him, I’d love to see Ched alongside him if he can get over his injury now he’s had the operation.

I cant believe some people are doubting this , the Man works his b0ll0cks off every match , he is the leading scorer , there are not many defenders that can handle him , he scored 2 goals at the sty , he wants to stop with us ( he could have gone else where for more money) WELL DONE leoooooonnnnnnnnnnn you deserve it .
I bet he scores today !!!

only a picture of Servalan would have got a like from me.

Sexiest woman ever on the telly.
Go on then, seeing as it's xmas.

That's assuming we're upping people's wages in 5k segments, this is Sheffield United!
He came from Bury so maybe he was on 3k /week there, what would it take to tempt him? How about another 1k/week and 100k promotion bonus? So that'd be 4k /week, tie him down for another 2 years? First there's the bonus of same wages for another 2 years (let's face it at that age they are normally falling) so maybe it was just an extension but if it was an increase I'd say anything from £200-£1,000/week, he might be on 5k/week wouldn't imagine it's much more (but there will be bonuses).

I think it's safe to assume that the Championship's leading goalscorer is on considerably more than £5k per week. You must be stuck in a time warp.

But Wilder's fell out with the board and is joining the massive, flecks off to burnley or celtic, brooks is fucking off to Liverpool and the prince is packing up and selling off. Sell sell sell club, always in Wednesdays shadow...at least from what I've heard on here:)

That's just the start. :(

But isn’t this all based on your ‘projection’ that he’s now on £15k per week, which might be way off the mark. According to a Wilder he could earn more playing somewhere else but he wants to carry on here

but tells the rest of the squad - look after us and we'll look after you.

That would be basic he's probably on a scoring bonus too although you don't hear about that so much these days and I'll wager every player on a senior contract has a 'promotion' bonus.

Cracking news. He's become a bit of an icon. And who'd have thought that, even those who were chuffed when we signed him?

What he's shown this season IMO is how he's right up there with Glenn Murray and Daryl Murphy in the clever, canny, influential, reliable goalscorer stakes. Age no barrier, especially with fitness & commitment levels like his. He's been superb (& he'll continue to be).

As an aside, as an introvert/miserable fucker myself, got to say I like his strange, quirky personality - great to see how it's been embraced as part of a group of differing personalities all pulling in the same direction

Last sentence brilliant. Sounds like he’s a real asset in the dressing room with the lads. Whether Wilder has created this or its a group of under achieving senior older players who have the maturity to make this work. Probably both.
Difficulty may be in future when/if we have to splash the cash a bit, to bring in quality players, team harmony, and wage structure. Also meeting Wilders professional ambition and keeping him happy.

I’d be amazed if Brooks is still here in january, perhaps get him back on loan for rest of season.

The last 2 years accounts have stated an average of £10m p.a. on player costs. I don't know the exact number of pros but lets be generous and say 25. That's an average of £8k per week, in league 1, so lets add another 25% on to that to reflect United's position in the Championship this year. That now takes us up to an average of £10k per week. There will be a number of junior pros and squad players in there on £1k to £3k per week so that leaves some scope for one of their counterparts to be on £17k to £19k per week.

There's no way that any of United's regular 1st team senior pros are turning out for £5k or less per week. Clarke's new contract will take him to the upper ranks of the squad in terms of pay to reflect his status as the division's leading goalscorer.

you've spent all the money on basic wage, I don't know if it works like that these days or if point/win/goal/promotion bonuses exist, if it's all weekly you are probably right.
