Lots of speculation regarding these two players today with Blackwell hinting (in Naughton's case confirming) that he has spoken to the respective clubs and would like to add these two to the squad. If anything happens in January I think these are the two players you will be looking at.

It goes without saying that Naughton would be a loan but I would imagine McSheffrey would be as well. Would be very surprised if we signed anyone permanently but I think we should be reasonably satisfied if we can get this pair in.

Think blackie has already confirmed that any sighnings (1 or 2) will be loans only!

We're potless!

Yeh its a shame because I think we have the nucleus of a good squad. Just need to invest in some permanent players, 2 or 3 is all we need IMO.

With the exception of probably Newcastle, do you think any club in our around the auto/ play off slots thinks that their team is "complete" for this division?

i know we've been crap at times this season and the rest of the time mediocre, but is it just us or is it a negativity or lack of confidence or something?

All my life we've always seemed to have been (at least) 2 or 3 players off what ever it was we were trying to achieve, relegation scrap, play offs, auto's etc etc

we shud never have sold naughton an mc sheffry we shud have bought him years ago........ but we have no AMBITION.

I hear you, but I think its natural for fans to think we need to sign this player and that player. You will always get that no matter how many players you sign because once you get to where you want to be, youre then thinking of how you can get to the next platform.

From my own personal outlook I am looking for us to finish at least in the playoffs and I would expect a top 6 finish from the group of players we have. I think hand on heart - we are two players away from being able to finish in the top 4. If we stick with the current squad we could finish in a playoff spot but I think we would be scrambling for 5th or 6th. A couple of good signings would give our current team that little bit extra to finish the season well.

Just my opinion.

If we are potless then god help the rest. McCabe just won't invest anymore, he wants his money back, WITH INTEREST whilst the other clubs around us will no doubt still make signings.

Totally agree with you, but I'm just wondering if we'd ever be satisfied with what we've got. I guess not.

Take Man City for example and Chelsea before. All the money in the world, able to buy anyone and they do... Yet I just wonder if their fans have ever said. Yep thats enough, I don't think any player would improve what we have.

I also think that the top half of the Championship is made up of teams that are 2-3 players away from mounting a serious challenge for the play off's. So if thats the case. It just relies on 4 teams to put a decent run together, not 2or 3 extra players.... doesn't it?

I don't however think we're close to being a serious challenger for the automatics without the 2-3 players

You can't have been supporting very long then as a few years ago we were promoted. We then 'achieved' a relegation scrap, which we lost and then reached the play off final last year which I imagine was pretty close to our goal. So a few times in the past few years we have I am sure achieved our basic goal. I am sure our target this year is to reach the play offs and we are pretty close to achieving that

Well I think those two will leave us in a decent position.

I would of liked Bale for the left wing but I'd take McSheffrey.

Bunn
Naughton
Morgs
Killa
Naysmith
Walker
Harper
Willo
McSheffrey/Ward
Evans
Hendo

Obviously others will pick another front two but that's a pretty good team and with no outlay.

I'd even fancy that side to get a result at Wembley in May.

Both of these moves would be good. You know why? Because both players are better than what we have got! I couldn't gibve a stuff if they are loans. Mcsheffrey is a better LM than Cresswell. Fact! Naughton is a better RB than Walker (although not by a lot). Plus he would offer very good cover at both LB and RB.

I don't think the 2-3 players thing is about targets, its about where we are and then never quite being good enough to make sure we hit the targets

I think unless were leading and there all season, then we'll always have this 2-3 player more attitude

Nothing wrong with it, just always seems to be there

People are always saying we're two or three players away from being a good team and one of the "two or three" is always a central midfielder, yet people back Monty to the hilt. For the first time in I can't remember how long, in Harper and Williamson, we actually have the potential midfield partnership for that not to be the case. Unfortunately, Monty's still "first name on the teamsheet" so I think we're a replacement for him and a proper striker to replace Henderson away from being a good side.

Thirlwell and Rankine ?:loopy::hug:
