His distribution was pretty rotten at times and his finishing even worse but as a purely defensive performance, it was as good as you'll see whether positionally or digging Egan out the shit with a match-saving tackle.

Defending is primarily what he's paid to do and he did it extremely well.

Proper defender. Seeing Egan comfortably winning the ball didn’t stop him tracking his man. Without that defensive mindset he’d have been nowhere near the challenge.
