Blades Playoff Away Leg v Bristol City
The first playoff leg on a Thursday night at Ashton Gate proved to be a Blades night to remember. Wilder’s team selection, as ever, raised a few eyebrows, with almost all Blades fans thinking that O’Hare and Holding should have been preferred to Brewster and Robinson. Bristol City had played really well for a deserved draw at Bramall Lane in the regular season, but they didn’t manage to pose much of a threat in this playoff leg.
Blades had an early Ty Campbell headed goal disallowed for Peck being offside and interfering with play – the sort of decision that TV pundits love to discuss! Brewster played some lovely balls in to create good chances for both Ty and big Kieffer Moore and Bristol City had their only moment of quality when Williams smashed a 25 yard screamer against the bar.
Just before halftime Anel Ahmedhodzic took a pass midway in the Blades half, looked up and dropped a 50 yard diagonal ball right onto Ty Campbell’s head. A beautiful flicked header from Ty for Big Kieff to run onto, Kieff gets dragged down by Dickie, red card, Burrows penalty, 1-0 Blades at half time.

Against 10 men the Blades controlled the second half completely, subs Tom Davies and Cal O’Hare basically ran the show. Burrows released down the left by Hamer, a Burrows first time cross, a step over by O’Hare and smashed in by Brooks, 2-0 Blades. (Brooks’ back-flip celebration alongside Souza’s comedy copy was the top entertainment of the day)!

The rout was completed by an outrageous demonstration of speed of thought and brilliant skill by Cal O’Hare. Hamer’s corner was headed back across the goal and Souza took a shot at goal. O’Hare jumped to avoid the shot but, while in the air, he realized that Souza had mishit it straight at the keeper and before landing back-heeled it past the keeper!

3-0 to take back to the Lane. Job Done.
