Just met both in The Copthorne - lovely couple .
He thinks we are warm but is surprised by the amount of negativity around. Me and Alan from Richmond explained why!
He said planning something for March 22nd and mentioned Alex Sabella.
He also spoke of some other plans involving fans - I wont say what as they're just plans - but he tell me that Alan Woodward us much better after his recent illness.
Mrs Phipps is lovely and they are both very warm and approachable!
Annies Bar is open - great pre match venue for season ticket holders.
Right, enough from me - Stella is waiting for me!

Sorry about the J in the title - sausage fingers!

;-)

If he signs Woody before the window closes he'll be a hero.

How much money is the Prince going to spend on us ?

(And don't tell me you were too polite to ask) :)

Like the way Jim Phipps interacts with fans on Twitter, even though everyone seems to ask him about transfers! On a daily basis he reiterates he doesn't deal with that side of things. For fans he seems to be the go to guy when we are annoyed by how the team has played or how the club is run but he doesn't shy away from any questions. Keep up the good work Jim

Really? Was he looking at the league table upside down?

I appreciate his openness and communication with the fans, but that is a bizarre comment given our league position and the crap we have had to put up with for the last few years.

Ever since I can remember, and probably before that, a succession of high rollers with excellent communication skills have pissed up our backs and told us its raining. It might be considered unfair, but not only have you a difficult job on your hands Jim, but the antics of all your predecessors have conspired to create the air of cynicism you find difficult to understand.

As welcome (and unusual) as it is, one decent JTW won't just magic it all away, but continuing on the path of improvement will, so it's all in your hands as it were.

FWIW, miracles we don't expect. Promotion next season, we won't even expect, so sensible long term planning that combines appropriate levels of investment in the calibre of players we need, topped up with our own coming through the ranks together with the strength of purpose to see it through even when we hit bad patches and resist the temptation to change managers again will do for now thanks.

I agree with you there.
However Jim wasnt invloved then or probably had never heard of us before august.
Therefor anything that has happened before then is not really relevant to him.
Obviously he will have been filled in all the goings on over the years but as an outsider upto recently, he wont have experienced the lows over the last few years that we are accustomed too.

It'd be worth his while to read "fit and proper" to understand why us blades feel like we do.

Of course some are more negative/ positive than others, but it gives an idea of where we've been.

What are you trying to say, everything is ok?
no , Im saying weve gone from being dead certs for relegation to looking like pulling clear , weve gone from not having any personnel to enthuse about to a better looking squad, and the results , 2 away games apart with odd goal defeats are moving in the right direction, and but for cup commitments wouldnt not be in the bottom 4, in fact if we only get 4 points out of the 3 games in hand would be well clear of the bottom 4

looking at our position in the table has to be tempered by the fact of the games played column is slightly askew
please relate to our position when the games played level out a bit , eh
perhaps you shouldnt listen to too many owls fans who ignore facts like we have half a season in hand on some teams

Really? I think back to Reg who talked disingenuous drivel about building the John St Stand for many years. Then bluff Mancunian bellend Mike McDonald who made claims that were simply laughable (Gazza, Laudrup et al). Then Charles Green who's pathologically unpleasant in every respect. Then McCabe who started well and lapsed into telling little white lies for which he wasn't forgiven. Then Birch who pulled off the bizarre trick talking prudence while spaffing our medium term future up the wall. Then Julian Winter who, to give him his due, told the ugly facts in a pretty straight way.

Now we've Phipps who has been hard to fault so far. Carefully chosen words have matched actions. Long may it continue, even if the words and actions are unpalatable (which will happen).

In all fairness Reg started well and with good intentions, had it not been for Sheffield councils short sightedness the Lane would have been developed years go and McDonald at least built the John St stand (but bottled it and sold Deano and Fjortoft).

Fingers crossed the Prince, Baki and Jim are a bit more clued up and willing to see things through.

Accepted. I started following United under Bassett so that's the era I remember. And Reg was a pain the arse in those days. :)
