Motherwell Fans Views On George Long

Seems to be some debate regarding the keeper situation so thought it would be a good time to see what the 'Well fans are thinking about George seeing as their season is still going

That could have been lifted straight from here when he was a regular first teamer. If this is an accurate description it's very disappointing.

Howard can't stop a shot from Rabge and Long can't communicate and has cost us points in the past. If we don't address it then it could well be out downfall next season.

Long is still young for a keeper. let him learn his trade away from the club and people wishing for him to fail.

Amongst the posts from Motherwell, most of which are critical of Long, there are a couple of pleas for tolerance. Trouble is, a team's first eleven isn't the place supporters want to see a young player learn their trade while making crucial mistakes. It must be terribly difficult for Long, and I hope he manages to hit a streak of form sooner rather than later.

It's been my thought all season. A good tall striker and target man would be great but we really need a top keeper who can run the defence. I'm convinced we would have been promoted this year.

Its all about opinions ,my view is that Howard is one of the best keepers in our league but had a poor end of season since his back injury. Hopefully pre season should get his confidence and fitness back and he will be back to the keeper he was for 3/4 of the season.
I have never rated Long from day 1 and don't think he will make it as a keeper in the league ,just don't think he has what it takes.

A bit of wishful thinking on my part, but I really wish we'd done more to sign Callum Wilson. Looking forward to seeing how he performs in the Premiership.

When did Howard become the latest scapegoat?

He needs our and the club's full support. We have a perfectly good keeper and we can either keep him or run him out of the club and waste money best spent elsewhere.

Imo, if it's allowed to continue unchallenged, Howard-bashing could even cost us promotion.

It's not inconceivable that one player here or there could be the difference and if we buy a player we wouldn't've needed that's money, good money, which should've been spent on someone we did need.

I do think our goalkeeping coaches need sacking forthwith. I'd also qquestion, if he hadn't got full movement at the end of the season, why on earth was he playing.

I doubt Turner would have done worse than Howard in the final few games. I don't understand playing a keeper with limited movement. It's such a risk.

You can sign a keeper on emergency loan if there are injuries

Howard top goalkeeper . If he wasn't playing for us and on the market , we would buy him. Bloke has been injured with the worst possible injury for a goal keeper . Long great when playing with other players his own age , U18 , U19 , U20 etc .

When playing first team football , he struggles . Sorry , not good enough IMO for even league 1 , especially if you are going for a promotion push.

Goalkeepers are as important as goal scorers . They can help putting points on the board.
