A thread discussing using what we have rather than what we may have! Amazing.

I think that we need someone better on the ball than Bash but also someone who can work as hard as him.

Tough, clearly Coutts is not going to work as hard but we may get more chances...

Might leave our inexperienced CB pairing too exposed...

As things are at the moment, would Coutts be a better option than Basham ?
For what? Basham hasn't been great but for a forward thinking midfielder Coutts has ZERO goal threat.
I'd prefer Reed and fleck even though they'd be horribly undersized!

I would be inclined to give this a go and move Basham in to defence at RB and replace Brayford. Either that or move to CB and move Wilson to RB if he is comfortable there.

No... whilst Coutts has some quality on the ball, he offers no goals or work-rate. Whilst I think that Basham is more of a centre-half, I'd still take his-work rate over Coutts any day. His physical attributes are also better.

Of the two Bash has a much better scoring record than Coutts and is a better defender.
I wonder if it would work if Bash and Baryford swopped round ?

I'd be inclined to give Whiteman a go. He's a better ball player than Basham and already more intelligent at a young age.
Basham at right back, if it's going badly for Whiteman put Basham back into midfield 60 mins in and bring Freeman or Brayford on. At least we'll have tried something a bit different then.

IMHO, our present defence (Brayford, Wilson, O'connell & Hussey) is very suspect.

On present and past form and thinking medium term (ie: leading up to Xmas) I would only keep O'connell - just think Brayford has gone, Wilson & hussey will prove to be average even at L1 standard as the season progresses (there are enough of you out there who are at present giving both the benefit of doubt) - PS: they both WON'T be in a team that can finsh top 2, which surely is what we should be all about - 1 just perhaps.

therefore, this present defence needs protecting...........Basham is the best solution.

Reed can't defend - sorry, just watch his game - he "watches" players go past him - needs to get more involved to be a success
Coutts just can't run enough - much better footballer than Basham, but not the workrate.

Hard to see where we go with this - Basham can only be temporary if CW wants to continue with 4 in midfield. The present midfield, including Done will get slaughtered as the season goes on.

I know this could be a hard feat to achieve but hows about we don't play any of them and go and get someone in who can play the position properly, not someone who only has one or two attributes but someone who has most of the attributes a midfielder needs.

John Joe O'Toole would be my pick if we can't get Morsy over the line. Less pricewise too.
Big strapping lad coming off the back of a brilliant season.

Give Whiteman a go, put Basham or Freeman at RB to replace Brayford who is simply out-of-sorts at the minute, not sure if it's a mental issue or he's playing for a move away but he doesn't look like he wants to be out on that pitch in the red & white at the minute.

I'd also give Jake Wright (Snr) a go at centre half alongside O'Connell. There's a reason he's been skipper at previous clubs & we need all the leaders we can get.
