So far this season he has been partnered by

Coady
McGinn
Cuvellier

Every other position in the midfield and forwards has been changed apart from Doyle.

He is shit, doesn't motivate and goes missing the minute we go behind, I can presume that he is the team fluffer to our managers and gives good head.

We need to get rid of the rot

If anyone should be given a bollocking today it should be Baxter. He looked hungover or something.

Oh dear..... Your preconceived opinion of Michael Doyle you carry into every game is quite amusing now. He was (again) one of our better players and several were invisible for long periods (Baxter anyone?), yet you start a post slagging MD off. I just can't take you seriously anymore....mind you, I don't think I ever did!

We obviously have different standards

Today was nothing to do with Doyle. He played ok. As soon as we went a goal down though the vultures were out for him. Pathetic

He needs to be more than ok. Unfortunately the thing for me with Doyle is that he is also captain. He can't drive this team and when we go a goal down he goes missing. I am guessing it's my fault though

If you go into the game with the attitude you started this thread with then yes, you will have a negative effect on the team. You'll miss 10 good things he does and pick on the first bad thing.

I doubt Doyle can hear my head in my hands and I apologise now for my negative impact on the team. Today is on me :(

10 good things, is that in a season?

Is sarcasm your default setting or only setting? Somewhere in there you must have a constructive counter-argument?!?

I have explained why I don't like Doyle and the reasons why. I am not sure how my negative thoughts at matches hinder his performances?

I expect more from a captain and as a player and when I look at us at the bottom of the 3rd tier of english football I look at the acceptance of his performances being good my some as the reason why we have ended up here. We need to improve everything and there is nothing you could improve with him as a player or a captain.

Didn't go to the game today but the OP is correct in that every other midfielder has been dropped/rotated other than Doyle (other than the JPT game). He might have been okay today and he wasn't the worst offender at Carlisle, but has he been playing well enough to make him undroppable? Why not give other combinations a chance to strike the right midfield balance?

Baxter was terrible at Carlisle last week as well. What do we do to players?!

Doyle was MOM today. Granted, that wasn't difficult but he did a job shackling Davies which in turn allowed Collins to win his headers and meant that Preston created nowt (our own self destruct button aside)

I thought doyle was average today, dwelled on the ball on more than a couple of occasions, he wasnt poor, but just average

Doyle is totally inept. He is the captain for fucks sake! He should be getting a grip of the team and driving us on. I listened to his interview pre match today, going on about how he knows how much the fans care and that they represent us and want to be a success. What a load of old shite!
If he cares so much then he should actually start putting a shift in or bugger off.

Based purely on that game

I think today's game is his baseline. he doesn't play better or worse than he does today. I question whether this is acceptable as a captain of our team. When the shit hits the fan am I wrong in expecting someone to drag this team off the floor. I am not blaming Doyle really, the fact that managers pick him as a captain probably shows he is the strongest leader of a a bad bunch. If this is the case, should I really be shocked with our failures over the last few years.

I can only imagine a quiet dressing room, not something that I would expect from a Warnock or Bassett one.

He's been captain for so long that i think everyone has forgotten what a captain's role is.

He may not be the worst player on the pitch be ain't a captain either.

We've been that rubbish this season that Doyle has looked good at times. That's how bad it's been, when Michael Doyle is one of the stand out players - not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, but not as crap as most of the team. He's not fit to kiss Monty's arse.

And that just highlights how shit Doyle is.

Cuvelier was embarrassingly anonymous beside him. I can barely remember an occasion where he touched the ball apart from a shot after five minutes. Quite often he looked to be playing behind Doyle - to the point where it looked like we had a back line of six players! I thought he was meant to provide the link between midfield and attack? I hate to say it, but Westlake did more in ten minutes than Cuvelier did the whole match. Baxter was also infuriating, wasting attacks on four or five occasions with loose passes when in good positions. Both of these two were poor. Doyle is disastrously limited, but (for him), he played ok yesterday. Not saying I would have him in the team though.
