Another pivotal game as our win against Burton has put us back in the mix.

I last visited our recent meetings with Forest here where a comprehensive record of our recent meetings can be found. Looking forward to our next meeting (Bramall Lane, 17th March, KO 15.00) we’ll look at the last time we met – an undeserved 1-2 defeat at The City Ground on Saturday, September 30th 2017:

This game saw United play in their white-and-black away kit for the first time. An early goal by Lundstram was pegged back by two Forest goals. Despite a couple of late near-misses, the Blades came home empty-handed but were third in the table. Three games later, we were top!

And here’s the usual excellent vlog by Kezza Blade:

Mark Warburton was the manager for this game, but would be replaced (temporarily) by Gary Brazil before the present incumbent, Aitor Karanka, took charge on 8th January 2018.

We first met Forest in 1893. The current League record between us is:

Home: P:50 W:21 D: 12 L: 17 F: 68 A: 65

Away: P:51 W: 13 D: 14 L: 24 F: 58 A: 85

Both us and Forest are toe-to-toe over the last six league games:

League table

An indifferent season has seen Forest way down in sixteenth position, but with a healthy gap above teams like Hull and the S6 Scrubbers.

Men to watch

Apart from Kieran Dowell (on loan from Everton and an England U-21), Forest don’t have any stand-out goalscorers.

As a young un watching us go down 6:1 and the ground was a shit hole. Wiremesh fences, iron poles in the ground with tape strung between them for fencing.
A Blade pulling said iron pole out of the ground and waving it at the forest fans outside waiting for us. 1977?
I travelled on the Junior Blade coach :-)

We've played plenty of memorable games v Forest over the last 30yrs:

Blades 3 v 2 Forest - First win back in Div One
Forest 2 v 5 Blades - Demolished them with cracking goals from Zico Lake and John Gannon
Forest 0 v 2 Blades - Cloughies last game at the City Ground and a result which relegated Forest
Blades 1 v 0 Forest - Gareth Taylor last minute volley
Blades 4 v 3 Forest - the famous PO semi final

I've been lucky enough be in attendance at all of the above, in the early 90's we seemed to do well against Forest and Bradders always seemed to get the better of Stuart Pearce.

The Play off semi & the recent Cup match at The Lane stand out, as does our first win back in Division 1 under DB the day before my 23rd Birthday.....what a present that was.
Think I've only been to The City Ground once. Cloughie's last home match in charge at Forest, graced by the Glyn Hodges goal that Bergkamp took inspiration from at the following World Cup.
First football match the (now ex) Mrs had ever been too. Despite someone a couple of rows back managing to cover the back of her top with tomato ketchup she did follow Utd with me for a few years. Also, watching the Match of The Day highlights she was clearly visible with my sister & one of my mates as they panned across the away end at half time. Yours truly missed his fleeting moment of fame by presumably being in the bogs.

Memories of Forest away.....

Used to be a good away day with early trains there, 9:30pm train home and a few beers on the waterfront and Hockley before and after, then got moved so we could only play Notts teams in midweek and became more about the football!

Really dislike Forest as growing up in Chesterfield there were a lot of Forest fans, never minded Derby though but Forest fans had a huge sense of entitlement.

I hope we beat them but can see a draw on the cards and season over.

My first (unaccompanied) away game. It was on 9th October, 1976.

That playoff semi in 2003 will live long in the memory for me!!. A great night to be a blade. Kabba's goal and the look on des walkers face as he put it in his own net!!. Priceless. UTB
