Straight to the point *clears throat*........

Let’s face it, tonight was a clear indication that we are a middle of the road CCC side. We’re not going anywhere any time soon. I’m not posting this to slate anyone in particular, as many certainly will after this result. We all know the knee-jerk reaction will kick in again because we have lost a game but it’s about time that instead of moaning, we just accept that we are mediocre for whatever reason that might be.

It’s irrelevant that we have played away from home to 3rd place tonight because they aren’t a good side and are in a totally false position (yes there is such a thing). I am just disappointed that after a reasonably good performance at the weekend, we couldn’t follow it up and get ourselves back on track against a team we should be good enough to beat. But I guess that’s football and some of us will get over it.

All I would urge is that the club need to correctly identify between now and the end of the season, what we need to do in order to fulfil our high expectations and build a consistent, entertaining side. I have my own opinions on what needs to happen but I am one fan and it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is that the club make the correct decisions and at the correct time. We just have to hope they have as much sense as the majority and can identify what needs to change.

By my estimation United need to achieve the following (or equivalent points wise) for the remainder of the season in order to stand any chance of the playoffs;

P14 W8 D3 L3 PTS = 27 Putting United on 72 Points

Make of that what you will. I’m making no further comment on it.

I would like something informed and concise in terms of response to this thread that we can read without rolling our eyes. I’m sick of reading short, abusive rants at the manager and certain players which neither helps nor interest those who want to discuss things properly. It’s as boring as it is pointless.

Not sure how to take that Walthamstow but very apt considering how some people on here sound suicidal after a defeat.

I on the other hand am looking forward, far enough forward to forget about the current stagnation which will continue for at least the short term. Regardless of all that.......

UTB!

Shouldn't worry about Walthy, I doubt he sees United much.
It's five on the bounce away from home and a 'resurgent' Peterbro will make it six.
We might win the odd home game and probably finish around 62points.
The saddest thing is that for all our supposed battling qualities, the moment the opposition take the lead we may as well walk off, give 'em the 3pts and save energy.

Looks like the kind of film our boys could do with watching before they go out and play.
Instead, it's obviously that one with the Bee Gees soundtrack.

True, but that's more down to the lack of a workable 'Plan B', or any form of 'Plan B' in most cases.

Spot on Lou.

I know that this is not just a knee jerk reaction after a defeat. You know my thoughts on this. At the start of the season i thought wew were good enough for a top 4 finish. However, with current playing and coaching staff I now feel that we are looking at more like a 10th place finish. I accpeted medicrity a few weeks ago (after Watford) and am seriusly considering not shelling out any more money on tickets before the end of the season. Last night I was watching the Milan Man U game, but had Radio 5 on for Blades updates. After 3 minutes when Earnshaw scored, I switched the radio off and watched the game on the net with Italian commentary on. I knew we'd never get back into it. I checked the scores a few times, but never expected us to get a result. i have completely and utterly accepted that we are an average Champiosnhip side and will definately be in this division next year!!

I don't know whether you saw the post O put up at the weekend, but my friend is a football expert/professioanl gambler and his (professional) opinion is that we are a mid table side (at best).

Before the weekend we were something like P 30 W 11 D 9 L 9 F 42 A 42

Can't understand why it's such a shock about our mediocrity, you can't get much more middling than that!

Prediction for end of season
P46 W16 D zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'll try to avoid a short abusive rant then. :)

My honest assessment is that I don't expect to make the play-offs, so I won't be taking my shoes off if we do finish midtable.

What I'm more concerned about is how we give ourselves a chance next season. All the loan players do is give us short term hope. We're really not building very much just now.

The constant turnover in the playing squad isn't sustainable, so I'd like to see us finally ditch the remaining high earners and bring in some younger replacements.

It's really not easy to do this without generous dollops of cash, so the sooner we start the better. Stability is the key.

The thing that irks me are the number of people repeatedly proclaiming that they have ''accepted mediocrity''.
Surely the act of accepting something doesn't require you to re-state your position at every given opportunity, before, during and after every game. It's OK. We get it!
