I was told this morning by someone who works at the club on match days that McCarthy wasnt registered for the FA Cup because Palace didnt want him cup tied meaning that he serves his one match this Saturday. I know someone posted a link from a FA website that McCarthy served his ban last night but perhaps the person who put in the details in that website didnt realise that McCarthy wasnt registered for the FA Cup. We need to be 100% sure that he is eligible for this Saturday's game otherwise we would lose 3 points!

j.Temporary (loan) Transfers
i.A player on a temporary (loan) transfer is ineligible to compete in the Challenge Cup Competition unless permission to do so is given by the lending Club in writing and a copy is received by The Association by 12 noon on the Friday prior to the date fixed for playing the Round. Any permissions must clearly state that the player has approval to play in The FA Challenge Cup Competition. A registered Trainee or a player who is registered on a Scholarship for work experience may play for another Club, subject to written permission being given by the Club that he is registered to and provided that such permission is received by The Association by 12 noon on the Friday prior to the date fixed for playing the Round. The Association will not give permission for players on loan or work experience to play against the lending Club.
ii.A player recalled, at any time prior to the date of the Round, to his original Club from temporary (loan) transfer, in accordance with the terms of the loan agreement, may represent his original Club. Such player may only play in postponed and replayed matches if he had been recalled in time for the first match in accordance with sub-paragraph (i) above and (iii) below as applicable.
iii.A player on temporary (loan) transfer is eligible to compete if transferred by the lending Club to the loaning Club after the date and time for player qualification for a round but must have been eligible to play in the original tie.
iv.In the Competition Proper, players on "long term loan agreements", are not considered "loan" players for the purposes of the Rule, and are therefore eligible to play in the Competition.

Basham and McEveley would start for me anyway.
I really hope he doesn't drop either Basham or Doyle ,or even play them together in midfield. Basham has been a revelation at centre half ,but I imagine there will be an agreement with Palace to have him playing. If so it would Macev Jay who would make way for me , not dropping as he has been excellent but we have a lot of games coming up.

I can imagine Neil Warnock would love to bend the rules and have provided us with written permission for him to play knowing full well that he had a ban and couldn't ;)

I reckon Palace gave him permission to play in the cup last night after the red card, meaning he could serve the suspension last night and play for us Saturday.

Palace sent him here to play games, so it's the best outcome for all parties. Even though I'd happily have Basham and McEveley at the back every week anyway.

.

Palace giving him permission to play in the FA Cup would mean he would have to be registered before we played at Crewe on Nov 8th, not after that

that's what I thought. Didn't a non league team get chucked out of the cup one year for playing a player in a replay who wasn't registered before the first game? Or did I dream that!?

Whatever I hope we have made sure we have dotted all the i's and crossed every t on this one.

You are right, I think. Since this morning, I have been trying to remember who was the player and the team

It was this one I think, it was Bury. It says he wasn't cleared in line with F.A. Cup timescales but does not specifically say before the first game (this was the replay). It does show that it needs to be in writing to allow him to play in the cup - not sure we would have had that from Palace.

Not sure to either! I do have trouble remembering events and matches in the past 10 to 12 years

Just think that we are in the the envious position of having 3 of the best CB's in this division and three capable of the Championship.

Happy to have any of the 3 play.

Yep, my thoughts too, any combination of those three will do for me. Despite McEveley having a bizarre wobble last night during the second half, he seemed intent on shooting himself in the foot with some of his decision making. He was clearly frustrated with himself at one stage as he put his head in his hands, joining in with half the crowd who had done the same.
