Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere,

Been bored at work and looked at KB's quotes on the BBC site, rather than going into him making excuses as usual, I'm just curious to his numbers he comes out with.....

He states there has been '24 debuts' this season and '15 players out of contract' for the end of last season....

Now that's a lot of debutants to go on top of a 'small' squad.
So obviously I was intrigued as to who all these debutants were, I didn't get to 24, so was just wondering who I've missed out.

Kyel Reid
Andy Taylor
Ched Evans
Ryan France
Glen Little
Jordan Stewart
Richard Creswell
Mark Yeates
James Harper
Keith Treacy
Mark Bunn
Andrew Davies
Carl Ikeme
Toni Kallio
Marcel Seip
Nyron Nosworthy
Kyle Bartley
Paul Connolly
Steve Simonsen
Matt Lowton

Anymore anyone?

As for the 15 out of contract players, I don't know the ins and outs of the out of contract players, but these are the players who left with no fee at the back of last season

Nicky Law
Jamie Annerson
Ben Starosta
Paul Gerrard
Sun Jihai
Keith Gillespie
Danny Webber
Gary Speed
Aymen Tahar
Ugo Ehiogu
Sam Wedgbury
Keith Quinn
Ryan Creswell
Chris Lucketti
Adam Chapman
Geoff Horsfield

Really, out of all them, we would only really 'miss' - Ugo (we knew he wouldn't be back), Speed (see Ugo), Danny Webber and maybe Keef.

All the rest of the players who left, we got a fee for. Anyway, I'm mumbling.... who are the 4 missing debutants?

I get 23 - you missed Williamson, Fortune and Camara.

A bit dubious but Bromby ?

I think a more interesting question is who are the 15 (if you believe TB) who we've got left. I'm not sure about the contract situation of some of the academy lads, but I think the definites are;

Paddy, Aksulu, Cresswell, Evans, France, Morgs, Haber, Henderson, Quinn, Reid, Sharp, Stewart, Taylor, Ward, Williamson and Yeates.

That's 16 and there's possibly Geary and Lowton so I'm not sure who the 15 are.

Forgotten Haber's signed up in Hungary full-time, so is this the 15 ?

Paddy, Aksulu, Cresswell, Evans, France, Morgs, Haber, Henderson, Quinn, Reid, Sharp, Stewart, Taylor, Ward, Williamson and Yeates.

Trevor Birch said that we had sixteen contracted players which I think must be these:-

GK:- Kenny, Aksalu (2)
DF:- France, Morgan, Lowton, Taylor, Stewart (5)
MF:- Ward, Williamson, Quinn, Yeates, Reid (5)
FW:- Creswell, Henderson, Evans, Sharp (4)

I think that in his own mind Blackwell doesn't see Aksalu, France, Lowton, Reid and Sharp as genuine first team players which leaves him with 11. He's also aware that he'll be forced to sell 2 or 3 "high earners" to balance the books, which is why he's stated that he only has "8 or 9 players". I believe that's where the discrepancy between Blackwell and Birch has arisen.
We all know that any player who attracts an offer from another club is immediately sold and I expect that to mean Ward, Henderson and Sharp will all be gone before the start of the season.
Morgan and Quinn will only be retained beyond January if they agree to a large pay cut. I predict that Morgan will join Warnock at QPR and Quinn will be off to Swansea.
So on this occasion, I don't think Blackwell was exaggerating. He will have to sign around 14 players to stand a chance of building a promotion squad.

Sounds about right, I wasn't sure where we stood with Lowton and Delboy.

The one I'd disagree with is Morgs, he was quoted as saying he wants to end his career with us and whilst you have to take player's comments with more than a pinch of salt, he's one player who you'd tend to believe. Unless of course someone like QPR come in and offer one last big (relatively) pay day.

I think we may look at player exchanges, maybe the Hendo to West Brom rumour has some truth with possibly Teixeira coming the other way. Barnsley were rumoured to be after Billy which could tie up with the Bogdanovich rumour. I see we've been linked with a Notts County defender, exciting times :-)

I think there's a bit of confusion here. I assume this thread is about the quotes Blackwell made after the Ipswich game?

I think he said that after the play-off final defeat we only had 15 contracted players? I don't think he is referring to the end of 2009/10.

No confusion, it’s two separate interviews. In the Yorkshire Post on 19th April 2010, Blackwell stated that he only had 9 or 10 players under contract and therefore needed to sign 12 to 14 players this Summer.

"The problem is there will be six loan players who will all go back to their clubs, and I think we have got seven out of contract. We are talking about 14 players leaving and that only leaves me nine or 10 players under contract. We have got to go and get 12/14 players in the summer so whatever happens it is going to be a big, big building job".

Nope, as Sothall says this was mentioned towards the end of last season (just gone) and Birch followed it up at the recent Q&A sessions. Forgetting post play-offs, this is about the players we have under contract now.

I realise that you are discussing the players under contract now, but I think Robbie is looking at the Blackwell quotes post Ipswich and the quotes about 15 players refer to the post play-off final situation, not the current situation.

I can't see Morgs being enticed down south - moving his family from their home, he has always lived in the area and I would, personally, be surprised to see him up sticks and go to a new club.

Also isn't Bogdanovich available on a free? So a swap with Billy really would be a shocking piece of business on our behalf!

This close season is going to be unlike anything we have seen before - so many players are being released by clubs and only a few will be able to pay any big fees - I hope that we manage to keep Ward, Quinn and Sharp as they are young and exciting players (Sometimes in Quinn's case!) and bring in well chosen players who can help to develop on the quality that we do have: Kenny, Naysmith, Morgan, Naysmith, Yeates, Williamson, Monty, Evans, Cresswell and the three already mentioned.

It’s got all the hallmarks of an impending Blades sale though. He’s one of the highest earners. Only one year left on his contract. No mention of him being offered a new one. Last chance to “cash in” before he gets too old to attract a fee. Warnock stated that he wanted to buy him for Palace but “couldn’t afford him”. I’d be delighted if Morgan insists on staying but United have an illustrious history of patting key players on the back while guiding them to the exit door.

>Who was the last POY to see out the following season still with us? Nudger Needham?
heh..lmao.. he's not wrong you know.. :-)
actually i'm a little disappointed with this thread.. i keep seeing maths quiz and my brain goes.. 'ooh ooh'.. and then it isn't actually a maths quiz at all :-(

Chuck on a teaser then SP, I'll be happy to crack the calculator out :D

I'll start, 2 loan signings plus 3 perm signings x the amount of pies Lee Strafford eats per game - 12 =?
