We witnessed another stylish and ferocious performance from the lads today, one in which we appeared to be completely in control, calm and professional but with a completely ruthless streak as well. I don't need to go into the game itself because there are multiple threads all with a different twist on it all and we are all overjoyed!.

But how did we get on in "Match Week 34" over the years?

One Year Ago.........

Sheffield United 0 - 1 Burton Albion

(Akins 49)

On that I remember for one hell of sitter that young DCL missed?

We started the game well and nearly went in front from a Billy Sharp header however despite our possession, in hindsight we were ridiculously ineffective.
Burton went four points clear at the top of the table after this game and to be fair they weren't bad value for money because they played some decent football and created far more chances than us. Also Mark Duffy played for Burton in this one and caught the eye with his trademark runs and trickery.

Walsall 3 v 2 Sheffield United
(Ched, Williamson)

League One

A game which came as a bit of a shock in a season that I am sure we would all prefer to forget.

The blades were riding high in League One and Walsall occupied a relegation place, therefore knowing our beloved Sheffield United....and our frustrating history with Walsall in this league, maybe this wasn't such a shock? It came during a bit of a wobble for us in this particular season, we had lost to Oldham by the same scoreline at home 3 days previously and not to mention a frustrating 1-0 defeat over at the the a couple of weeks before.

On a cold Tuesday night, the first half was a bit of a stalemate with both back fours on top...however the second half was a bit more lively all-be-it the wrong result for us.

Mantom had only joined Walsall a few hours before kick off from West Brom and he put them in the lead on 55 minutes. This didn't last for two long however as Ched Evans teed up Williamson to equalise in the 65th minute..........Once again though, this didn't last too long....Macken Scored from what was probably a cross more than a shot and put Walsall back in front just 8 minutes later.....But nope it wasn't over because only a couple of minutes later, Chewyn went up the other end and equalised the game again for us!!!........The bitter blow coming in the 83rd minute when an unmarked Nicholls, nodded in to win it for Walsall.........We huffed and puffed but couldn't reply.

Ten years ago......

Manchester United 2 - 0 Sheffield United

(Carrick, Rooney)

Old Trafford
Tuesday 17th April 2007

Oh how we long for these days again....One day, One day!!

In a game that in all fairnes we actually battled really bravely in, you don't expect to turn over the likes of Ronaldo and co on their own patch!...And We didn't.......The Champions eventually made light work of us but never the less we have some chances to mention.

After holding out against that well know Portuguese bloke...eventually he got through and played a ball across to Carrick, who lobbed a running out Kenny to put the hosts 1-0 up. A couple of minutes later, paddy Kenny stood strong to deny Rooney from putting Manchester United 2-0 up from point blank range.

I wasn't total domination and we did try and play a bit of football inbetween stopping the absolute class of Christiano on one winfg, and Giggsy on the other!.......However all good things must come to an end and it did so when Rooney scored an absolute worldy across Kenny, to put the champs 2-0 up.

Luton Shelton then went on to blow our best chance of the game by "skying" a sitter from 10 yards out and Warnock well and truly lost his shit over a challenge by Heinze on Shelton, which he thought should have been a penalty (I remember it and also think it should have been).

The only other real notable moment from this game has to be Tonguey rattling the cross bar with a long range effort late on...

Twenty-Five Years Ago........

Sheffield United 2 - 0 Liverpool

Bramall Lane
March 1992

Why describe this one when we can watch it?

That infamous lob from the legend himself, Deano.......And a debut in goal for Mel Rees (RIP).
