Another club employee has just texted me this - 'If a UFO lands on the pitch tonight and aliens come out and start harvesting humans and zapping everything in sight with ray guns, the game will be off..', which I think is slightly more believable than your info.. :)

I've just had a text from the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse and he says.....

DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.

(Geek alert... sorry)

Memories Tarquin, memories. Then having to wipe the dog shit off yer legs?.

One game I played in, it was so wet on pitch 18 at Concord Park that our centre half did a sliding tackle and finished up on Woolley Wood bottom. Honest.

I remember once running a line in the Works League Cup Semi-Final late 1980s on that pitch. It was freezing (nothing new for Concord, I know). Golden rule of running the line - you are not the ball boy. The two clubs had one ball between them and they kept insisting on sending it down to Woolley Wood bottom. The game was crap and needless to say by 88 minutes I had had enough and could barely move when the ball was kicked out again and was in the direction of Woolley Wood. Needless to say, I went after it but realised it was going through the fence before I could get to it so attempted to stop on the footpath. Studs did not grip on the tarmac.

One broken wrist later I learnt why you don't act as ball boy......

Not trying to get all Silent Blade on you but I do remember the game getting called off for an unexploded 2nd world war bomb found. I remember the picture with the words UXB written into the snow.....

I'm sure Silent can come along with more details (and probably the picture)

Played at Myres Grove for High Storrs in goal on those pitches terraced into the steep slope so that all the water ran down the slopes onto the pitches. By the end of the match they couldn't tell me from the mud and when a glove slipped off it was a bugger to find it in all the mud!

Has the first game of the season in the football league/ Premier League ever been called off due to a water logged pitch in the past 10 years? Surely some Stat expert will know if there has or hasn't.

v Oldham in February 1985. I was a part timer then and was in London visiting my friend (probably chess tournament in next day) and was surprised that we were headline news. I did go to the re-arranged match a few days later. couldnt find the photo you are talking about (I remember it). Best I could find is the below

ROFL just watching it on telly. They are actually watering the pitch.
