"There was interest from Sheffield United, which is of course closer to home for me, but the attacking style of football that Reading play will be much more suited to my game."

What a W*nk*r, everyone knows he moved for the money.

Why is he a banker? Just for once a player could be speaking the truth. He clearly thinks Blackwell is a prick and took a decent offer from Reading. He's almost certainly made the right decision on financial and footballing grounds.

It can't have been money we pay big wages according to Mr McCabe???? One of the highest in the league. Can't fault him reading will be front runners for promotion.

Most clubs including Reading will fancy themselves for promotion next season it depends which boards will have the cash ready to go out and get the right manager and players.

There is only last season they weren't great like us really, they were 1 place behind us the year before.

I see nothing from the quote to suggest he "clearly" thinks Blackwell is a pr*ck, my guess is that it is more your opinion than his.

I think Marcus meant to say 'I moved for the money'

No players (or very very few) move to a different club because they play attacking football...

First of many I fear.

Diagree with Pittsburgh. Can't blame the guy for going to Reading. He's going to a club that plays better football with a better manager. Not only that but thye have a much better chance of getting promoted next season. It's a no brainer.

If we'd offered him more money, he'd have signed for us. Don't let your drive to pin everything negative in the world on Blackwell ( :) ) obscure the complete mercenary nature of modern footballers.

There's some agreed negatives to playing boring football - not being able to sign players isn't one of them.

If we offer the same terms as another team, who do you think they will join?

I definitely think this applies here. Reading will be working on a similar budget to ourselves I reckon so the offer from Reading won't have differed too much from what we will have offered.

In the one in a hundred cases that applies, the style of football would come into play. Chuck in an extra £10K per year and you've tipped the balance again.

One in a hundred cases?
I think you'll find it is more regular than think that terms from teams in similar situations will be relatively similar.

As it would seem the case here.

TBH it sounds more like a bloke who wanted to come to us but we didn't match Reading's terms therefore feeling sleighted at having to move down Sarf he decided to make a public statement saying he chose Reading. Begs the question what did he achieve with making that statement apart from causing a little mischief on messageboards.

Worrying signs already.
We can't afford Scunny's left back and McCabe's appointing bankers in a desperate bid for cash.
How long before the 'contracts don't end til June, most business done in July/August, more opportunities in loan window, don't want to just get players in for the sake of it' excuses are rolled out?

We've had this argument before Alco. I think that you have an incredibly cynical view on footballers and the modern game. Don't get me wrong, many footballers are cunts and are in it for the money, but some will take other factors into account. This is something that i'm sure we won't agree on.

I'm not blaming everything on Blackwell, just saying it as I see it. Surely the man carriers no respect in the game. He was an average goalkeeper and has achieved nothing as a manger. Anybody who watches us play will be instantly turned off. There may be an element of reading offering more money in this transfer, but if I was in his shoes (regardless of the £) then I'd chose Reading.

Is there any basis whatsoever for this assumption?

About as much basis as there is to believing that the towering talent that is Marcus Williams is truly an altruistic individual who plays for the love of the game who to further fulfil his dream of playing the silkiest football is moving to Barca - sorry Reading.

He went to Reading purely and simply for the money (like 99% of footballers do) otherwise why would he turn down a new deal at Scunny if living in the area is convenient to him. We probably made an an offer of what we judged his value would be to us and wouldn't offer any more but Reading offered him more simple as that.

FFS - I'm no lover of Blackwell and Hoofball but let's get a grip there's enough evidence to find him guilty of his crimes without having to rely on a throwaway linr from a pretty average footballer.

It's all conjecture.

It does make me chuckle though when somebody makes a public statement, yet keyboard warriors categorically know otherwise to said statement, thus making their views FACT and the originator a big fat fibber.

.....Don't get me wrong, many footballers are cunts and are in it for the money........
I'm not sure that many are cunts, but most are certainly in it for the money. How many of them will win trophies, or play for their country? Not many. So what is left? Playing the sort of football you like, and/or the cash. Mainly the cash, I would imagine. But blaming Blackwell for this "choice" is a bit harsh. And I bet there's no evidence whatsoever of him calling Blackwell anything.

Yes. And we all remember the conjecture of last summer and the wisdom of many on here, don't we.
Some of us are less willing to be fooled this time around.

Absolute gibberish.

He went to Reading because his prospects were better. Money may have been a factor he took into consideration, but he won't have based his decision entirely on that. The reason he left scunny is because they are shit. he doesn't want to lose week in week out and probably play League 1 football in a years time. There may have been a host of other factors as to why he didn't join us. Top of the list is that Reading stand a much higher chance of getting promoted next year. Now you can blame whoeveruyou want for that (Tevez, Robson, McCabe, Blackwell).

I'm not sure that many are cunts, but most are certainly in it for the money. How many of them will win trophies, or play for their country? Not many. So what is left? As stated above it maybe a bit harsh. Tne bottom line is that Reading are a bettere team, play better football, have a better manager and more prospects than United do. I'd even go as far as calling him an idiot if he chose United over Reading. Reading will challenge for automatic next year ...... we will not.
