That worries me slightly.

If Arblaster or Vini were to get injured the backup is Peck / Coulibaly.
Neither are anywhere near the standard.

We really need at least one more in there to provide competition.

We were linked to Matt Grimes, Kenny McLean and Stuart Armstrong earlier in the window. All three would be great additions in my opinion, particularly the latter two.
Peck looks a great player, needs games to improve but from what I've seen think he can go on to be better than Arblaster in the long run. Last time I saw someone as exciting was David Brookes and he didn't do too badly.

Peck not up to standard? Your looking really foolish now. Ready to go straight into first team and will eclipse Arblaster.

I don't feel particularly foolish, Captain Hindsight!
But thanks for swooping in and showing everyone what a massive legend you are.

I maintain that any output from academy lads should be treated as a bonus and shouldn't to be over relied upon over a full season.

I still think it's important to make another signing in there and wonder whether Seriki, Peck, Marsh etc. would benefit more from a loan. Tough call to make.

But extremely pleased with SP performance, his best to date and unexpected.

I don’t think you look foolish, and I agree that we shouldn’t expect too much from young inexperienced players.
However, i think you did do Sydie a great disservice when you wrote that he was ‘no where near the standard’ we needed when in reality no one was in a position to make that judgement at the time other than the coaching staff.
Just a lesson to us all not to make sweeping statements without evidence.

Maybe. I'd also hasten to add, Peck looked great against a League 1 team's reserves.

We know he can produce at that level. We're still yet to see if he can do it in the Championship.
He's given a really encouraging display that backs up his case, but - per previous, I think it would be daft to rely on it.

Would much rather have a few seasoned pros in that area and introduce Peck in the right circumstances.

Either way, we need to sort his contract out as we can't have another Jebbison situation.

With Seriki, Peck, Marsh, Brooks, Slimane, Hamer, O'Hare, Souza, Arblaster, we might not be pursuing this chap.

Let him sign for Wendy so that the massive think have got one over on us.
He'll be given his script to read if he signs for them that will go something like this "Yeah, lots of Championship clubs wanted me, and some Premier League teams, but when I heard that Wendy wanted me that was it, they are truly massive".

Then a gigantic bucket will be placed in Hillsborough Corner so that all the pigs can spaff off into it.

There is no doubt he looked head and shoulders above anyone else last and he is a talent with all the attributes required however lest we forget this was against a second string Wrexham so more a reserve team fixture - far from the championship use him wisely nurture him wisely

Another point is that young players tend to be very inconsistent.
Peck was impressive last night, great first touch and so comfortable on the ball...but as you say against poor opposition.

We can't really rely on young up and coming players, they will have good games and bad games.
However I think Pecks shown enough ability to be involved....so that probably means cover on the subs bench
but I do expect him to see plenty of game time.....mainly as sub.....and see where it goes.

However what might happen is......we offer him quite large pay rise with promotion bonuses and a 4 year contract. What if he refuses to sign?
Think he's in his final year so you can imagine Wilder might do an N'Diaye on him and hardly play him until he commits to the club.

I don’t disagree, just that writing ‘nowhere near the standard’ was a tad extreme wouldn’t you say?
Be like someone now saying on the back of one good performance last night ‘Peck is definitely of the standard of a top 6 Championship team’

A little careless in the wording on that particular post.
But it's reasonable to say, he's totally unproven at the required standard.

You do have a tendency to look at things from a 'glass half empty' perspective CM! :)

Have actually been very positive this season. I've liked the signings and the early displays have been really promising.
If we can keep hold of our important players and add a few more to improve the depth, then I think we'll be right up there.

Wilder seems to have rediscovered his mojo. Definitely a positive feel about the place. Fingers crossed these new owners don't get in the way at all.

Yep, these young lads look super exciting but none of them are going to be in top form for a whole season. And I’d include Blaster in that. It’s very rare youngsters in their first year remain consistent over a season. And I mean like Rooney rare. Best guess looking at recent displays is we could expect maybe 25 good matches from Blaster and Brooks. I’d put peck down for 10-15, including cups. The others, I’d expect cameos or perhaps off on loans.

It’s no slight on them - this group look quality and it seems fair to assume Blaster, Brooks, Peck and Marsh (at a minimum) will carve out careers in and around the top two divisions. Amazing work from our academy. But the kids are a bonus this year - we need a squad full of men to get us through the long champ season.

Aye
If you overlook 2 sentences (out of 6)
“If we can keep….”
“Fingers crossed these new owners don’t get in the way….”

Albeit I guess that is (only) 33% pessimism, or, indeed , 66% positivity
