last night two things pissed me off:

Half our players were slipping over a lot, Kennedy and Brayford spring to mind but several others struggled with their footing. Get em some proper studs in those fancy coloured boots

Corners reed took most of them, just checked sky stats and we had 9 corners, perhaps one creating a half chance. The corner taken by holt was the same as reeds though, just a little dink to the front post, mostly getting cleared.

This plan a corner doesn't work, we need to try different options and routines

That's all

The corners were something that nobbed me off in the Spurs game, floaty little numbers to the near post.

I did wonder whether it wasn't a ploy - whipped in and the clearance goes further, floated and it tends to drop somewhere where we picked it up. Suffice to say I wasn't convinced.

It's the only thing I can think of as reed received a couple of the clearances and then whipped it back in.

He was taking them like he was almost expecting us not to challenge for them

Don't even get me started on boots that aren't black
At least there were no gloves!

Think we need to create a blades fans charter for the players, so they know what to expect:

Black boots, no gloves, long studs and don't rape girls...

Think that's enough to start with

Be half-decent at playing football.

No, you're right, we should be realistic about this.

Or to sum up this post in four words… Swiss is getting old. :)

I would rather us not attempt to put in the box from a corner in the first place way i see it is this we don't have the height or strength to challenge on corners most of the time so why not pass it from the corner flag force them out a little to get the ball back then try and make some space in or around the box pass it to Murphy, JCR or Done hopefully resulting in one of them finding back of the net.

Maybe our lack of height is why cloughie takes a different approach to corners, regardless its frustrating to see.

Quick questions then- why send Tel Kennedy and Bashambauer up then? Why crowd the box? Why not try short corners or Blackwell-esque training ground moves

For a black boot fetish , plenty in 442 magazine .:D

We won a corner last night in the 2nd half. I think Murphy won it and actually placed in ready. There were two of our players in and around the 6 yard box non of their players were set including the keeper. Why this cannot be exploited is beyond me. It would have caused a great deal of confusion and panic had that been swung in early and possibly even a goal.
There are a few situations where corners can be varied but no one seems to try them?

Well let's hand these out to start with. Proper boots, long studs and black. Finest boots ever made.

You make a good point Swiss, I said similar last night, that this season we are poor and unimaginative at set plays in general.

I'd love to know our stats, number of total goals scored compared to the percentages coming from set plays.
Then compare that to to other clubs, We might be in the bottom few in L1.

Interesting stuff in this analysis - especially the conclusion, bit old but noteworthy non the less.

I'm afraid you chose the wrong Puma's. It's the Puma King which is the finest boot ever. My brother, who will remain nameless as he once had trials with Middlewood Boys, swore by them and therefore so did I.

I'd back Cloughs reasoning over that of the armchair generals on here when it comes to tactics, how we take our corners etc.

We won that's all that matters. Length of stud and length of corner matters not.

Yeah it seemed like he was told to leave it and slow things down

We've had similar with throw ins and it drives me mad. If we can take it quickly then take it! I think the murphy goal came from a quick throw

I think the ones SEB pictured were Kings

Personally I think Puma kings are a close second to Adidas World Cup

I had Puma King for years and thought they were the best boots ever, but then they brought out that version the SPA King which surpassed it in all ways.

never liked puma. they're like carpet slippers but hey what do i know.. pele wore them

HB Jnrs previous pair of boots were Puma, the threads went and he must have left a dozen or more studs across local pitches. I expect a player to slip occasionally, but the number of the slips does raise the question of how much attention is placed on what's the only actual equipment (I don't count out field gloves) used, with the exception of keepers gloves.

Allus struggled with Adidas WC and Puma Kings despite them being quality boots they were allus too narrow.
Hated flashy boots wi colours and shiz. Allus liked mine black as could be. Let me feet do the talking.
Had a pair of Nike Hotspur that did well for a season but quite a few Umbro.

One of most comfy boots I had in latter years (coaching not playing) were a pair of hand-me-downs from Ken Jnr. They were Kelme Shark actually made from shark skin, I shit you not. Really comfy and great control (allus ;))

He mostly wears Puma Kings these days. Soft ground wi' studs and moulded for hard ground. Doesn't go with bladed studs. A mate of his was wearing said studs on a power league pitch last night and twisted his knee during a shoulder to shoulder contact. A&E til 02:30 as a result. Bladed studs bad enough on real turf never mind artificial.
