We need a wide player with pace and skill to offer a different type of option to those we already have.
Now we've allowed Monty to leave, we also need a defensive midfielder to provide cover and competition for Doyle.
Failure to get these players in could mean the difference between automatic promotion and the play-offs IMHO.

Honestly don't think we need anyone. If the worst happened and we lost Mcdonald again, I highly doubt we'd be able to get many players at this short notice to even come close to covering for him. We're bound to get at least one injury or suspension at some stage but so long as it's not a whole chunk of the team like against Oldham, we should have enough to make up for that

I'd be surprised if the Monty deal doesn't include a recall which would cover an injury to Doyle. No point spending the wages unless we have to.

I'm inclined to agree to the point on the quick winger but would temper that with the fact that whoever we sign will have to accept that they won't be first choice which negates the benefit of a loan for a lot of players and managers.

Completely agree. Could be the final piece in the jigsaw. The pigs would be midtable were it not for the 2 wingers they've had on loan.

United have needed a wide man with pace for ages but what we need and what we will end up is two completely different things with united. I doubt we will get anyone in and united will issue the same old excuses "no-one better than we've already got"

Yes, we need a couple in on loan (you can bet Wendy will get someone in today & Charlton got a couple in the other day). It's vital for the final push (bet a few on here remember a day in 1970 when we got Hockey, Hope and - I think - Ford in case of injuries, suspensions etc. in one day).

But who to get? Well I'll be a bit controversial and say Duffy from Scunny (him that scored against us the other week). Would they let him go? Well, I posted on 'Football & Other Sports' section a couple of weeks ago, there are some very strange loans happening at the moment. For one, Brentford loaned out Alexander (their top scorer) just before we played them & Wendy could get Scannell in from Palace today who, besides scoring in their last 2 games, has always struck me as a good player.

Sure there's others. I'll have a think...

These are all good points, but I'm just not sure whether Blackpool have anyone good that they'd be willing to part with at the minute.

Why do we need a pacey winger when we are the leading goalscorers in the division which suggests to me that we have no trouble scoring goals with the leaden footed plodders who are currently playing. Would playing a pacey winger on Tuesday night increased our goal tally of 5?

Probably not but I'm guessing we'd be a lot nearer Charlton or even beyond them if we'd have had quality wingers throughout the season.

We need a central midfielder as a backup to Macca. Thus ensuring we make a straight swap if Macca is out for any reason...

Speaking for myself, I think that Williamson and Quinn have earned the right to be first choices for the wide positions.
However, when Williamson has had to move into central midfield recently we've played Hoskins or Williams there, both out of position.
There have also been times when we've struggled to break teams down by playing it through them.
It would be useful sometimes to have a totally different type of player available who can beat defenders or worry them with his pace.
I don't think we've had that option all season and as others have said, without Marshall and Antonio where would Wednesday be?

not controversial in the least mate.. thought he was a stand out player the other week.. doubt if they'd let him go though.. he ought to be on our radar for next season IMO

You speak for me as well.

Official twitter feed says something is in the pipeline for today...Tevez on loan?

"Today is loan deadline day and a potential signing is on the cards, keep checking SUFC.co.uk for details..."

I've always wondered why United can't have some kind of arrangement like Donny has in regards to loan players. We could get one or two pacy loan players on less wages than quite a few of the first teamers. The way I see it, united will do it (i.e the last 8 games) the hard way and not get anyone in. They could make life a little bit easier but that's not the Blades way.

Because Donny's system is working out so well for them?

Were you under a rock somewhere last season and the season before when the revolving cast of loanees was probably partly to blame for us landing in this division?

Wendies rely heavily on loan players , its the only way they can get a bit of quality, they can only buy 10 bob players as Mandaric keeps a tight rein on his pensioners purse. They would nt have bought anyone but for his winter heating allowance, if Reading recall Antonio theyre buggared and after losing at pompey its a possibility

No but we might have beaten Oldham,Walsall and Tranmere with one.
We need something different when Plan A isnt working

The reason; I think, we didn't win those games as I have mentioned in other threads is that the balance of the side is not goodwhen Hoskins/Quinn is played out of position on the right to have Williams on LHS of midfield. The first choice mid is very good Willo, Doyle, K Mac and Quinn. Flynn is the cover option hie can cover Willo (when injured) or if Willo moves to central mid if K Mac is injured.

Yorkshire Post - Sheffield United are on the brink of completing a loan deal for a young player from a Premier League club.
