I remember the Beattie signing mainly because he came soon after James Beattie had gone and we were able to continue with the Beattie (hey Jude song) which quickly stopped having realised how bad he was! I hope for a decent forward signing but I'm guessing with the limited budge due to FFP, we will probably only manager a centre back and centre mid or maybe a winger instead if a centre mid.

There's always the mighty Ade Akinbiyi back in 2006 (although there was always the goal at Swillsboro) :)

That one goal was worth it alone! The signing of Geoff Horsfield was the waste of money because Warnock fell out with him after five minutes and never played him again!

£1.2 million we spent on him! £1.2 million!

I never quite understood signing him in the first place.

On paper it seemed a decent signing but it never panned out that way, did it?! At least Akinbiyi gave us one of the best goals we've seen in a while against the pigs at their place! Forever a legend for me, to be honest!

reading about Marcus Bent reminded me its that traditional time of year we sign a 'useless striker' on loan.

Last year - Davies
2014 - Paynter
2013 - Forte
2012- Beattie
2011 - Bent

Surely Mcabe must shudder when he looks at that lot only Davies scored!!!!!
it improved then

what is always baffling s why Forte couldnt hit a cows arse with a life size millenium falcon , but goes to Oldham and scored 1 in 2 for a while

Thought Davies was ok myself

Signing shit loan players isn't the problem. Relying on them is. If only we had done the right business in the first place, we wouldn't be facing a 6th season in lg1.

Say what you like about ade akinbiyi but we spent the dosh and went up, we may not have done without his winning goals against Derby (on debut) and the pigs.

On paper it wasn't a good signing. A 32 year old player with 14 goals in about 3 years previously.

2013 also featured Dominic Poleon, who, incredibly, was even more useless than Forte, who scored twice.

Michael O'Halloran can be added to the 2012 list. Again, didn't score.

Ps Davies this season - 12 games, no goals, injured since October. If Clough had stayed we'd have been dealing with that, despite its utter predictably.

O'halloran did score a penalty in a shootout, I forget against who.

Also scored the winner away at Derby, when warnock went back to shipperley,he quoted that ade wasn't what we were looking for, the previous month he had quoted he had chased akinbiyi for 3 years cos he was just what we were looking for, bizarre

An ex-director told my mate warnock used to go to the board every month rubbing his hands together with excitement and say "I've found him lads, the final piece in the jigsaw ....insert player here"

Even if Paddy had to let his shots in in training and Warnock had to tell Kozzy to stop pranking him because he was going to break.

Wasnt hoskins considered to be quite a decent signing but he got really badly injured not long after arriving or did I imagine that

I think the issue with Hoskins was that he was signed with an underlying injury and it got to the point he couldn’t play just as we needed him most. But yeah, I think most were reasonably happy that we had enough with Beattie, Hoskins and O’Halloran acting as back up to Ched, Cresswell and Porter. Although I must admit, I wanted us to sign COG before the pigs did. Him and Ched would have absolutely destroyed the league.

First time O Halloran came on as a sub for us (we were already winning and picking the opposition off on the break- was it Chesterfield?) he looked like a superb signing. He had electric pace and had a frame and running style very similar to Christiano Ronaldo. Unfortunately, that was where the similarity ended. His decision making, finishing, timing of his runs, ability to play with his back to goal etc. were all truly atrocious and he seemed lazy and not a team player. A classic example of a player who had all the tools to go to the top and wasted it.

He went back to Brighton after the fateful 1-0 to MK Dons with a hernia injury. Given his performance that day, he shouldn't have been started he was clearly injured.

He was actually with us for about 10 weeks but didn't play many minutes despite 4 starts and 8 sub appearances.

I suspect he came with injury problems given his lethargic performances for us.

He's barely played since that season but he wasn't goal scoring or reliable for us even if he was considered a decent signing.

He was also signed as the plan B in case anything was to happen to Ched - but the injury put pay to that. Didn't he get injured in training during the week of the trial? I remember him trying to play at MK but you could see he was injured.

Although Warnock did manage to get us promoted.
