Desperation from United: LivingSocial/Groupon and the like normally take 50% of the asking price, meaning United will be probably getting £5 per ticket.

Desperation or just a marketing strategy? When it's expensive they're ripping the fans off, when it's cheap they're desperate.

Pricing is one area (along with North London :)) where the club just can't win.

On the other hand, would the normal match day walk-up take (which is always hit for televised night games I'd imagine) be covered by the screening fee, meaning they can try something different as a risk-free exercise?

Please note - I'm not saying it's a good idea, just a different one....

Great to see United trying something different for a game when it's going to be tough to get many non ST holders to go.

If you decide not to be dynamic and innovative on your ST sales in the summer then you have to work like hell at damage limitation during the season to flog cheap tickets on a match by match basis.

We've taken the hard option but at least we are giving it a go.

I don't know if there is a limit on how many can get the deal but I hope there's a plan to publicise it - I for one am not subscribed to Living Social (though I am now of course).

Assuming they are taking a cut how hard would it be for United to price tickets at say £6 or £7 and send an email to every fan on its database advertising it. I think the club once said we had 40,000 or 50,000 on the database. It seems incredibly under-utilised.

It's in excess of that. Like you say though, good to see them trying different things.
