Well we did it all the way through from League 1 to finishing 9th in the Prem last season.

It's very easy to argue this season's Premier League is the hardest ever, looking at the squad lists on paper.

But despite playing below par, we're only succumbing to one goal defeats. Doesn't need too much to change... The pessimism of some is uncalled for.

Totally disagree. This has all the hallmarks of 75-76 season but for different reasons.

I'll give you.

1. Lack of fans
2. Inferior qualty of players that is countered by fans, no fans means player's 'efforts' diminished.
3. Prince cant release more funds as money spent in buying the ground.
4. Lack of JOC and change in defence (Henderson going) thus altering/upsetting backline.
5. Lack of Mousset means no 'x' factor forward - though post lockdown he was a bit pants anyway for reasons now known.

As you say the difference is often one goal but last season it was only one goal so maybe so far this season we've somewhat underperformed and last year overperformed for the reasons just offered.

In 75-76 IIRC it was a somewhat ageing team but sadly a brilliant season in the top flight seems to be followed by a rubbish one.

The trouble most clappers ignore is that with each set of games with no win, the chance of bridging the gap and the points needed to do so gets harder to come by until in the end it becomes a realistic impossibility even if it remains a mathematically possible one.

Now it isnt jump off the cliff time yet, but hell it is bloody worrying. The disappointing thing was the failure to beat Fulham. Terrible result that, even if it did give us a point.

Frustrating for all.

Also many other people, including Wilder, have mentioned it's players going into their shells. Hard to give evidence it's CW, considering he's playing the same formation and system.

Just like the original poster would be happy, face to face, to tell everybody that thinks we’ve been a bit shit this season, which we have, that they need to grow a pair? Ok.

It’s Wilder’s job as manager to manage the players. If he thinks they’ve gone into their shells, man manage them. I thought that’s why we had a mainly British squad. Because he had a better grasp of the psychology of the players. He needs to get their chins up, and pretty sharpish.

As for being one win away from being out of the relegation zone, until we get that win it means nothing. It’s like saying you’re only six numbers off the lottery jackpot.
