Just reading the views on the new boys on BM for last night and wondered what those who went from here thought. Here's a few snippets of the widely differing opinions;

Flynn - described as superb by some and very quiet and unnoticeable by others,

Lecs - most seem impressed,

McDonald - most were impressed,

Kruk - comments ranging from reads the game well and should be signed to rubbish,

Porter - nowhere near ready fitness wise.

Seems as though Lecs is set to be the new cult hero and Collins, Doyle and Simmo are in for a hard time again

He didn't really get too much time on the ball. Looked nippy, but spent more time tracking his man than running at anyone with the ball (not really his fault as he didn't really get the opportunity). He got more into the game in the second half when he was switched to the right.

Lecs - most seem impressed

Had a good game in both positions (left back and centre back), used the ball well, made himself available/made space often and picked out a few quality passed. Him and Monty probably created the best two chances of the first half with clever through balls.

McDonald - most were impressed

Didn't really get on the ball a huge amount, need to see more really. Adds some height in the middle and looked fairly comfortable/strong when he did get the ball.

Kruk - comments ranging from reads the game well and should be signed to rubbish

Didn't look as comfortable as at Worksop and had a couple of mistakes. Looked to get forward plenty. I think he's worth a try myself, if he isn't going to cost us much.

Porter - nowhere near ready fitness wise.

He isn't fit, but he did offer something our strikers normally don't, he actually gambled/put pressure on the defenders and created an opening for himself by gambling on a mistake. He didn't finish the chance, but it was nice to see.

A bit of initiative and ingenuity up front I'll be damned. :)

I agree with that Foxy apart from Macdonald ,I thought he did look to get on the ball and used it well ,More passes than Quinn/Doyle/Montgomery put together. I was disappointed not to see Flynn running at his full back, but there did look potential. Collins played a great ball through in the first half which we should have capitalised on but I haven't seen it mentioned in any report anywhere.

Was our keeper at fault for the goal? The report on the O/S says: "his powerful shot moved in the air, deceiving Simonsen".

Nobody seems to be mentioning Slew. I've had a feeling for some time that maybe he's not going to turn out to be the goal-scoring machine that the fans expect.

There's going to be far too much pressure on Slew to perform. The kids only played 3 or 4 games and some of our fans will be expecting miracles.

That said, I would start with him as he's still our only striker offering any sort of pace.

I thought McDonald was a class apart when he came on. Looks a little immobile but the guy is excellent in the ball and really adds some size to our middle.

Once we got rid of the Monty-Doyle combo we looked a much better side last night.

Positives from last night was Flynn, Maguire, Lecs and the kit, all of which were pretty decent. I thought McDonald looked comfortable on the ball although seemed to be a few yards off the pace, can forgive him that in a pre season game though.

The main negatives were that I cannot see any difference to what we saw last season, its exactly the same and its hardly surprising as we started with Simonson, Collins, Monty and Doyle. As soon as I saw the starting eleven it killed off any hope of seeing some decent football. We never really looked like scoring and with Simmo in the net you were waiting for us to concede. We have another manager who plays Williamson on the wing, has he ever had a good game on the wing?
Wilson said it was all about the performance not the results in pre season, however it was the performance that worried me last night.

To be fair, it's always difficult against Donny isn't it? Championship club beats League 1 club. More important they bond as a team.

Monty, Doyle and Collins could be lifelong buddies, inseperable on and off the pitch but that will not help one bit.

The stand out performers for me have all been mentioned, although I wouldn't rave about mcdonald. He does look to have something about him though (the reports from him on here before the game seemed about right, good ability-lack of application).

I'm hoping Flynn will finally be a winger that pleases the fans, I've always liked our wide players but they have all lacked an ability to track men and help out at the back-Flynn showed he can do this and in the first half I remember a fantastic touch of his that set him off down the line to put in a cross.

The performance was good last night, just need more potency up front, Porter with some fitness and a new striker-but who?

Are we going to be playing in white socks at home? My resistance to a season ticket will be broken if we are.

Are we going to be playing in white socks at home?

Hopefully not! Anything other than black shorts and socks is a travesty.

The online shop seems to have both black and white 'home' socks for sale, although there's no pictures up yet.
