Last goal directly from freekick?

To think we romped the league with 100 points, scoring 92 goals and not one of them came from a dead ball... crazy.

and the last goal DIRECT from a corner? Alan Woodward???
Did it at least 4 times.
v Newcastle (h) Sept 1969
v Leicester (a) Sept 71
v Coventry (h) Nov 71
v Norwich (h) Jan 73

Geoff Salmons (at Man City in March 1974), Mark Dempsey (at Oldham in Sept 1987) and David Unsworth (v Derby Sept 2005) have scored direct from a corner for us too

Once you've all stopped having a dig at the OP. This is actually quite an interesting statistic.

Wilder and Knill, or CWAK as I like to know them as now, work hard on routines so it's rare that we shoot directly. I'd be interested to know the actual answer.

For some reason, I feel Duffy has done.

Ricky Holmes scored one for Oxford on Saturday too.

No idea to the answer but one possible explanation is we prefer to shift the ball and change the angle.

The Fleck goal last September being a prime example. Admittedly we've not exactly excelled at this practise either.

Just checked last season and we scored from 3 free kicks. None of which were directly struck.

Fleck v Pigs - rolled off and hit
Clarke v Wolves - crossed and headed
Stearman v Sunderland - crossed and headed

Another possible explanation is that, with the odd notable exception mentioned in this thread, we’ve been shite at direct free kicks for years :)

Someone mentioned Fleck's searing strike at the Rust Bucket.
Need we discuss this topic any further? :)

2016/17 Season:

Sharp v Rochdale - Cross and volley
Wilson v Oxford - Cross and headed
Basham v Scunthorpe - the "routine"
Sharp v Bradford - cross and half-volley
Duffy v Charlton - pass and shot
Sharp v Bury - Cross, scramble, shot
O'Connell v Southend - Cross and volley
O'Connell v Walsall - Cross + 2 headers
Sharp v Wimbledon - Cross and a fumble in
Duffy v Rochdale - Lay off and shoot (it was an in-direct free kick inside the box)

But Norwoods free kick oozed class. Probably as cheeky as Dean Saunders goal off the goalies arse. Made me laugh.

I can't remember but I'm almost sure Duff scored one last year or atleast in our title winning season?
