We have lost about 20 players from last season, it doesn't matter whether they were loans, they retired, had career threatening injuries, refused to sign a contract or left to appear in a West End Musical, 16 players have left with potentially 2 more going although one will be a loan making 18.

We’ve still got 23 first team players on the official site. No wonder we’re skint.

I was taking issue with the claim that we had “let about 20 go”, when in fact the number we have let go is barely in double figures, and even the total number “lost” (in which you have included loan players) does not amount to 20.

Including the Charlton keeper we’ve signed 6 players and Dazzler Darren says that 2 defenders are coming in soon. You wouldn’t say we’ve signed about 10, would you?

The Charlton keeper is a youth player isn't he ?
Didn't we let one of our youth Goalkeepers go as well ?

Five of those were loans and one had a probably career-ending injury. So we’re already down to “about ten”, rather than “about 20”, even before taking into account players who were out of contract or refusing to sign a new one. Not saying we don’t need further replacements, but “about 20” is a ludicrous overstatement.

On that basis, you can't count incoming loans.

You want to include players that will never play again due to injury and the loan player that replaced him, plus Traore who was out on loan and BBD who replaced Traore.
So why haven’t you included the returning loan players Traore, Coulibaly and Boyes as new signings as you’ve included Traore as leaving again?
We haven’t yet signed a loan player. Do you not think that we might get one in either this or the January window?

We haven’t played an U23 game for over 2 years but I still toss and turn every night worrying about whether we can fulfill our non-existent fixture list.

If we were signing him permanently then it might be different as we could’ve taken a more long term view.

By what I have heard, he will probably miss 2/3 months of the season and then maybe up to speed early December. Then you have to weigh up do you sign a lad for a season which would be December to May. So you would be paying to loan him for 9 months and then getting 6 months availability out of him (provided he stays fit from December onwards).
Value for money and what we need now? No. Probably a bullet dodged as I would have preferred (and hopefully we will now be bringing in) someone who is defensively better. It seems he was great going forward but a total bombscare at the back.

Might not be the worst idea ever to look into this lads availability in January and maybe look into playing him further up on the right hand side / right midfield if all parties fancied it. The lad himself was happy to sign for United and a deal was in place so he may still be open to a move to us in January if we are doing well.

I am very pleased if he’s injured we haven’t signed him, this is an improvement on previous recruitment, it’s also good that we have other targets rather than been fixated on one till deadline day.
