Wow, that video sent a shiver up my spine did that. I was at that game an remember the goal, the shot deflected off Pointer's head and went in. My dad sat me on a crush barrier near the back of the kop near where the SS touchline is now. The crush occurred to the left of me on the terracing where they put the benches up in the cricket season, so there were no crush barriers on that part of the terrace. United were lucky they didn't have a Hillsborough type disaster that day given the crowding and the primitive state of the ground. This game was my first taste of United buggering things up when they were on the brink of achieving something.

Three weeks later I was born!

Ray Pointer. Burnley had some great players in those days. Lost to Spurs in the final, or was it Man Utd ?

Anyone who was at the Lane to watch the demolition of Cardiff City 5-1 that memorable night would surely take issue with the "best ever" claim, and that match was also in the 2nd tier of the football league. That was a cracking team, but still not as good as the team that topped the top tier before George Best went on his little run across the edge of our penalty area.

MORE THAN A QUIVER UP MINE!
I was the lad who made the "Bertie Blade" cut-out (copied from the Green-'Un) - from hardboard (very tough quality back then) and hand-painted. I also made individual cards with the Blades letters on and handed them out to my mates. I didn't realise till now there was any film of that match - WOW! I wish I still had the Bertie Blade, but he got his head bust off at another big game and was thrown in the bin. I still have the rattle - still works too, and is bloody loud!

Great OP.

My first game was 1966 and started going regularly in the 1970/71 promotion season - been a season ticket holder practically every year since. That was a great team but if honest they never achieved their full potential - I think John Harris and TC have admitted this. Since then there have been decent teams under Furphy (finished 6th), Bassett and Warnock who never managed to go to the next level.

This current squad under Wilder fill me with great hope. The football at present is so good to watch and is matched with a commitment and consistency that I've not witnessed in my time watching the Blades.

This is a great time to be a Blade and long may it last.

The circumstances added to the value of the Cardiff win, we were neck and neck at the top. Attendance was 42,000.

I was inside OT at 1-30pm, ground was full by 2pm, unlike today when grounds fill up at 2-55pm. That team scored loads of goals, qualified for the Watney Cup :), anyone remember that ?
