My dad once said that great players very rarely made great managers, using bobby charlton as a prime example, the only real exception I can think of is possibly pep guardiola, and at a push pochetino although pep has won everything, was he a “great” footballer.. pochetino is another, but was he world class? (He might be) however, not won owt yet as he really..

Fergusson, Clough, Paisley, Shankley, amongst others were hardly world beaters but were exceptional managers, Dalgliesh was a great player, and had success as a manager, but not on the same level and wouldn’t be classed as a “great” amongst managers..

Gazza wasn’t a great manager was he? Fun in the dressing room no doubt though..

Yes I’m a big fan of clough he was a prolific marksman prior to the injury and I believe would have been a permanent England first team player for the years to come, very strong and level headed he would have gone into management after the playing career he didn’t have in the end. I strongly believe he would have been successful on the level I was talking about, top player and manager..

He loved us as well “ those wonderful men from South Yorkshire” he called us, after that game at forest.. it’s in the book, you’ll have read it I’m guessing ...

I think so. He benefitted from Ronaldo, a one man trophy winner, the player who dragged Portugal to a European Cup and being at a club where you do little more than coach and pick the first team. I could see him doing quite well at another rich, well run club, like Juve but struggle at somewhere like Chelsea or Man U. For me, he needs to prove himself at another club before he’s up there with Guardiola, Conti, Klopp, etc.
