Just Like Watching Jake Wright

Did anybody else feel that the defence with Jags last night was like the old League1 days, with Jake calmly sitting in the centre, anticipating events before they occurred and spreading a feeling of confidence to those around.

Being a big lump who wins everything in the air is good, but knowledge and experience takes you to a whole different level.

I reckon Ampadu learned more last night than in a year on the training ground.

Magic can always surprise you.

Mentioned this on a thread about Ben Tozer (the lad who played like a colossus for Cheltenham v Citeh.
Big unit 6' 3" great competitor and 31. Prob get him for couple of hundred grand.
Could he solve the problem we have with conceding from crosses, set pieces etc or as back up for JOC, Egan etc?

Paul McGrath was like that too - it seemed like the ball was always drawn towards him. I imagine that older Blades might say Joe Shaw.

He reads the game very well. Rarely did he get caught out.

We lost very few games with Jake Wright in the team, even in the Championship.

Jake Wright is now playing in the National league for Hereford. Still only 34 (accordingtoWikipedia). I can only assume his ability and/or fitness have dropped off a cliff, he was a magnificent 3rd tier CH and a very accomplished 2nd tier one as well. Our League 1 Baresi, lovely player to watch

Excellent call mate!! Add in there Ampadu bringing the ball out of defence like a 2018 Jack O'Connell and it there was a misty eyed throwback feel to it...

Fingers crossed we can further emulate it v West Brom next week!

It's astonishing really that Jake never got a chance at a higher level, until we took him to the championship, was clearly more capable than lg2 and excellent in lg1 and looked comfortable in the championship when he played. Only weakness in his game at that level was pace.

It's a major shame we didn't pick him up a few years earlier. Exactly what we needed when we lost Morgs and he could've had a brilliant career at United.

Still eternally grateful for what he did do here. Superb

I thought he was that sort of age when he signed for us!
