All spot on comments....sorry to the fickle Coventry fans, but if any of them think he was crap as I have read, then they are either liars, or demented.

Scottish international for me.....and without doubt a premier league player.

Know more than a few Cov fans, not one of them think he's crap.

Just to get back to a more familiar Sheffield United way of thinking (after the last few months of optimism) and I have to say...we need to go up to hold on to him, a la Murphy, Maguire, McDonald et al. He's championship quality.

Any suggestions for pre match pub on Thursday. Usually try one on the Foleshill road and walk along the canal path to the soulless bowl

By way of example of all that's wrong with crap stadiums built in retail parks... a trip to watch Cov has transformed from a bit of a tour around city centre pubs and a walk to the ground... to driving from home, park up, walk to sterile ground, drive home again.

Top class for this division and yes, he will be in the Championship next year - with or without us.

Agree with the poster - it helps we have movement around the pitch - we didnt last year - hence why the likes of Coutts and Baxter used to get slagged off for "bad passes".

Surely you mean Duffy? ;)

I perceived the OP question about the squad this season and think that overall Coutts has been tremendous since he came in.

He didn't play for the first 5 games and has been at the hub of our magnificent revival.

Fleck and Duffy started the season in indifferent form and have both benefited from Coutts inclusion.

Coutts knits the team together and allows Duffy (your choice?) to flourish near the front of the team but is generally devoid of doing the dirty stuff, which is why I would pick Coutts.

It's a close call at present. If Duffy carries on like this he will undoubtably be the most influential.

And to think we spent pocket change on Coutts and absolutely nothing on Fleck and Duffy. Just goes to show that having an astute and forward thinking manager and staff can quite easily replace the fat cheque books and barrels of oil.

Like B58 said, it's good to be debating who is best rather than who'se the worst. I think all three have their unique attributes, and if Coutts and Fleck continue adding a few goals their game we can only get better.

At beginning of the season, many (including me) thought that Basham would be our most important central midfielder and were glad that we'd signed enough centre backs to free him up. No disrespect meant to Basham, but it just shows how far we've come in that department.

Fleck is almost the complete midfielder, passes, tackles, reads the game can beat a man with a moment of skill.. if he could add a few goals as well he would be unplayable at this level.

He is already good enough to play top end Championship in my opinion and it would not surprise me to see him get a chance in The Premier League at some stage.

Shhhhhh ......... hush for heavens sake .......:cool:

January is approaching and Big Kev may be called upon by Tufty to stump up some cash ....... :tumbleweed:

We don't want him having any crazy ideas about selling players ...... ;)

Indeed - I agree, and it is now clear that we debate where "our" team should go next. Some fans pour scorn on discussing Basham as being a weak link, but as we have progressed so much, it is a question as to where Basham now fits.

For the team to progress (and I repeat what I have written for weeks) that everyone one else is playing for 2nd - if that comes to fruition, we need to be looking beyond this season to next as it will be far from a walk in the park as some would think.

You're talking about the ambitious Blade that put fu**ing Bryan Robson in charge !!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::confused:

It wouldn't surprise me if he accepted a big bid, despite us doing better this season because he may be a brilliant property developer but ( like most of our Board ) he knows sod all about football ! o_O;)

Come on, this club's board/ owners would never screw us over like that mate.

Selling one or more of our quality midfielders mid-way through the season when we're in a great position would be tantamount to selling our best strikers in a similar situation. It'd be utter madness, it'd derail our season, it'd never happen, our board/ owners wouldn't ever do something as daft as that. Surely? Would they?

He's very good but I bet he's delighted to have two mates who are just as good but also different enough to make them a hugely impressive trio. Not one of them is miles better than the other two and why anyone would want to introduce divisive views like that is difficult to understand.

In fact, Paul Coutts is by far the better player...

"Introduce a divisive view?" Au contraire Mr Pinchy I was simply giving praise and support to Fleck who needs to be less self-demeaning when appraising the quality of midfielders in the side.

I contend that yours is the only divisive view, by claiming it as FACT that Coutts is the better player. He is certainly the most improved player at BDTBL but he was a wheelbarrow full of dog shit until this season when Wilder has finally revealed him to be the player we all hoped he was when he first arrived. There is no quantifiable comparative basis on which you can describe one player as better than another "in FACT". You're simply offering an opinion, which in your mind probably represents the same thing ;).

Where I do agree with you is that Fleck, Coutts and Duffy make a truly awesome package as a whole.

UTB!

I think Basham proved where he fits yesterday with another faultless performance, only CW and me would have him in the team every week but what do we know.;)

What a player! Easily championship quality!

I couldn't believe the Coventry fans saying they don't miss him and he's not that good etc.

I hope he has yet another stormer on Thursday and shoves their comments back down their throats.

They weren't saying that before we signed him BB. I think the fact they voted him their player of the year last season tells us all we need to know mate.

you make a good point - we all knew Jake Wright was not a permanent fixture, but he just epitomises the play it simple type game. Bash does fit in a back 3 and I remember going to war when it was suggested for a couple of seasons that his best place was in defence - my argument was not in CD of a back 4, but in a 3 he fits in well. In a way CW has stumbled on 3-5-2 when by all accounts he prefers more of a fancy 4-4-2 that alternates during a game. I genuinely don't see a role for Bash at CD in a 4 or CM in a 4, so I am sure he has a place in how we play at present.

As for faultless yesterday - yes he was - but still way behind the three natural midfield players of Fleck/Coutts and Duffy. They are all that midfield players should be, which for me says Basham only has a temporary roll in there when needed.

I cannot believe with how things are going some want to start critising our board, they have kept quite, in the background brought in Wilder, backed him, I have no idea what January will bring, but I think it will all be positive, quality in, none of our better players leaving

Don't think they'd ever be able to hold a fans forum again if they did

...but his biggest fault is that he keeps passing to the Runaround wanker in front of him.

As you prophetically say; " why anyone would want to introduce divisive views like that is difficult to understand."

Hypocrite.

Actually my final remark was light-hearted. Coutts is my personal favourite because he now plays with a sublime elegance that makes the game look easy.

In fact though, I don't care which of the three excellent proper footballers we have in midfield is or might be slightly more impressive than the others. That varies from match to match. It was Duff today. I ❤️ The three of them. I regard suggestions that any one of them is "miles ahead" as risible, that's all.

Great goal, Couttsy.......
:)

To top it all off no one is bemoaning the lack of 'Monty' or 'Doyle' in the middle ....
