It sounds like he was a very successful manager in Portugal. Which prompts a question for older Blades.
Considering how bad United were for most of the late Seventies, did United never try to recruit him as manager instead of Furphy, Sirrell, Haslam, Peters etc..?

More to the point, why have we got a statue of Derek Dooley instead of Jimmy in the car park?

Although Dooley did quite a bit off field for United he wasn't our greatest ever player nor did he design the badge that we all know and love.

My Dad always said he was the greatest Blades player ever, peerless Jim he called him. Only ever saw him play in a testimonial game, probably Joe Shaw's.

"Legend" is a much over-used word. In Jimmy's case it is more than appropriate.

My father always rated Jimmy better than Tony Currie. He had a book which described notable tricks used by players to beat an opponent during a game.
One anecdote was about Jimmy Hagan who was on the ball at the corner flag with an opponent blocking his way to goal whereupon he played a deliberate one two off the corner flag to beat his man.
