Well done to these two lads. I haven't seen a lot of Hodder (a right back) but Jahmal is a good young 'un.

Of course Diego and George Willis already have contracts.

Spare a thought for the ones that didn't get contracts, I think they are:

Josh Williams
Ty Williams
Chris Salt
Max Pemberton
Owen Heather
Ethan Lynch

I've seen a tweet from Chris Salt which says "“Happy to say I'm proud to have played for the club and meet the people I have done, only way is forward now”.

I have to say that is class young man and I hope you get another chance. Looks like all the lads are congratulating Jahmal and Jordan - some nice touches from them all.

Whilst we vent our spleens at the first team, spare a thought for the youngsters that got bad news today.

Yeah good news and unfortunate news for some of those young lads. I'm sure many will pop up to play against us in the future... lets hope that we're not as far down the leagues by then!

Surprised at any of this DazBlade88?

I'm not DazBlade88 - but I am fairly surprised there aren't a couple more (assuming of course there aren't, not seen any proper confirmation yet).

Ty Williams was one of the first I expected to be on the contract list.

I'm with Foxy, I thought Tyler Williams was going to get a contract so that has surprised me somewhat. I thought they might have offered Salt a one year deal to see how he went on but I'm not surprised that they chose to release him, he'll get a deal somehwere though I'm sure.

Owen Heather was on a youth loan to Carlisle earlier in the season so he might end up getting a chance up there?

Goalkeeper Ethan Lynch has also been let go - which wasn't a surprise as Gareth Owen had stepped up ahead of him this season.

There's two or three cracking under 16s coming through though so watch out for them next year!

Let's hope Tyler doesn't con
E back and beat us! Seriously' though. I hope they all get picked up somewhere else.

I was surprised to see Salt on the list. Had the physical attributes to make the step up and thought he might develop this year. As above I reckon he'll crop up somewhere else.

Who are the u16s Daz?

Also be interesting to see how Willis goes on next season as he could be a big factor in whether we cash in on Long as I rate Willis as the better of the two, at their relative ages of course.

Salt had the physical attributes, but I don't think the coaching staff felt he used it enough. For his size he didn't boss games as much as they thought he should. He wasn't great with the ball at his feet but they could have worked on that.

The U16s that I'm interested to see progress are Louis Reed and Dom Calvert Lewin. There's a couple more that are highly rated who I haven't seen so it'll be good to see how they get on.

I agree about Willis. He's not ready for the first team yet but he is an immense talent, definitely better than Long was at that age.

Just an update on this - Owen Heather has been offered a deal at Wolves, and I believe Chris Salt has joined Barnsley.

Josh Williams may have an offer, but I've not heard anything about the other two yet. I wouldn't be surprised if Max ended up with his dad at Bristol City though.

His non-signing was interesting given what was said previously about his dad's role in selecting him.

Salt's chance at Barnsley is interesting too. I hope it's a reflection of our relative playing strength* over Barnsley rather than our financial weakness.

*at youth level.

I agree. It was one I was really interested in too as most people are aware I thought that was alot to do with it!

I think it's the former personally. I don't think United thought he was up to it.

That's how Kevin Davis started his career.

The youth policy under Bassett and Mincher was awful (Whitehouse and Ward were already at the club before Bassett arrived). They released Kevin Davies cos they didnt spot his potential like John Duncan (Chesterfield's manager) did
