As almost every other player has their own thread, I thought I'd start one to say I thought he was terrific again last night.

Lost his place through illness a few weeks back and has had to be patient and wait his turn.

Got it last night and took it with both hands.

Some have more than others. Guess who has he most.
Oooh another keeper:D

Apart from when he panicked and tried to lob Moore last night ;)

That would have been one of the most amazing own goals ever.
It's was as though his body was possessed by John Stones trying to be too clever.

He was just about to kick the ball into touch for a throw in then twisted his body and tried to lob our keeper with an amazing back pass that he got all wrong. Fortunately the ball went out for a corner instead.

That was the nearest Bury came to scoring and it was our player ha ha

He's a better player than Basham. Wright and Eel are also better than Basham. This should be our main three central defenders and Basham can cover defence and midfield if or when required. Nothing against Bash but he just isn't as good as the other players we have for the positions mentioned to start, lucky for him that CW likes him and while ever we are getting results he will probably stay in the team.

For me, JOC should be a mainstay in the team from now on.

Totally agree Wiz, but while he's fit I'm sure he'll start.

He gives CW flexibility to change formation without making a substituition.

It's hard for Wilder to justify dropping O'Connell but it's also hard for him to justify keeping Basham at RWB if Freeman's fit or playing him in midfield when the others are all available.

It'll be interesting to see what he does on Saturday. But I suspect it'll be Basham back to CB. If he is then let's at least put him LCB so the other defenders don't have to change position into one they're less comfortable in.

I realise this HC, and your second little paragraph is a great point and one I can fully understand.

If Basham starts every game and we keep winning who is going to give a flying fuck? Certainly not me.

Basham will be an integral part of the squad whilst we are in this league, that I have no doubt and no gripe what soever, i'm merely giving my opinion on the matter. Ultimately, there's only CWs' opinion and more importantly decision that matters.

Wilder is big on not changing a winning side. That said, he's aware that wing back is not Basham's best position so I would imagine that Freeman's return to fitness will see Basham drop to the bench. That is the right outcome: the back three which played last night is far and away our strongest as it plays to the strengths of all three members: Wright in the middle organising with EEL and O'Connell free to attack the ball on either side.

Like Forwards with pace - at this level CBs who attack (and win) the ball are a very rare commodity.

Not only do we have two (JoC and EEL) but they can also both pass and score goals...

No exaggeration to say our Back 3 is Championship quality - probably why we're looking better than we have in a long time.

Can't argue with any of that.

I do prefer JOC in defence though, with Wright back in the centre of the three it gives much better balance.

Just glad I've not got the dilemma of deciding who gets dropped.

I seriously think that O'Connell will be as good if not better than Harry Maguire. He oozes class and he will prove to be a quality signing. Full marks to Wilder pulling this signing off, I'd never even heard of the lad before he joined us but I think he is destined for big things, hopefully with us.

So did I. In fact, thought he pushed Coutts close for MOM.

While we're on the subject of bizarre moves, what was that attempt from Chapman all about?

Agree with all that.

I think the defence has a better balance to it (on a number of levels) and is physical and mentally stronger with EEL-Wright-JOC as the back 3. Basham is great to have as a utility player, to fill in as a centre half, right back, right wing back, midfield but only as cover for injuries, suspensions, loss of form. When they're all fit and playing well all the positions are filled by better players in those positions. Nothing against Basham, he has a key role to play in our promotion push this season, but as a fill in utility player, not a first team regular.
